Smart Plug Continuous Rating

I can see that the Max rating on the smart plugs are 3680W but I can't find anywhere its continuous rating. Is it the same? Is it really fine doing 3680W all the time?

Anecdotally from whoever it was ages ago I was speaking to about them in Givenergy land, they have 16A rated relays inside (hence the 3680W)
I'm sure they would also rate everything else on the PCB (like tracks and so on) to handle the same given that's the value on them, so you would assume that they should stand 13A max of a UK plug continuously.
Not sure if anyone has done a teardown on one. I never bothered with them.

You do also have to consider what your plugging it in to - not all sockets are as well made as others. If your thinking of using it for long timespans of EV charging, then cheap nasty new ones and well worn old ones have a habit of overheating at 13A.
You should also not look to run two large loads from a double socket as they are very often only rated to 20A / 4600W combined. (think the official BS standard test is 14A + 6A from memory)

hoggy Yeah it is a EV granny charger I am looking to use it with, short term solution until we get a proper changer but ideally would like the GivEnergy one so how short term it is I am not sure 🙂 Would enable me just to keep it toggled for the Eco 7 hours only which should be enough to tick us over. (In theory can also switch it over if we have access solar)

Thankfully the wiring is fairly new in our house and it will be going into the garage socket which is only one hope from the fuse board. I'm sure it will be able to handle the Raspberry Pi in the other socket.

I'm very confident that they will have designed it around assuming people with no knowledge would not be able to break them by plugging in an appliance that could overload it.
