Hi;
For the last 14 months I have stored that daily pdf reports emailed to me every day (along with the Weekly and the Monthly). These showed in a simple and informative way how my system was performing.

During January, the data shown by these reports has become completely incorrect. None of the reports show the Solar generated power and usually the consumed power is also Incorrect.

I queried this with GE, but was told that they were not supporting these reports any more and I should look at the 'beta' web site. As far as I can see the beta web site does not generate these type of reports.

I am somewhat unhappy that a simple and easy tool has not been maintained.

I am completely baffled why they cannot fix the data, after all the data exist, the reports exists and the system worked well for at last 14 months.

Are other people experience problems with this type of report?

Do other people want to retain this type of report?

Regards - Jim

Didn't know they did them - and personally I wouldn't have read them anyway.
The Beta portal does give you what you want I would think - it has week, month and year views in all sorts of flavours. Would be nice to be able to download the view rather than just the raw data - but a screen grab is simple enough. I appreciate that its not automatic which is what I guess you are missing.

xtronix don;t assume the old reports were the ones that were correct. I know a lot of effort has gone into the beta site check against smart meter data, I have far more faith in that data. The original site is not being maintained any longer so will drift from the newer functionality in the beta.

You are correct, the beta site does not produce the reports as there is no need. They are point in time snapshots, The new site gives fully configurable graphs and extacts. The fact you are saving the reports daily for 14 months suggests to me its a sub optimal exerience.

As a curiosity, how often do you open old ones?

I think the pertinent questions are:

What are you using the old reports for?

  • What questions are you using them to answer?
  • What insight to do hope to seen?
  • What are you going to do with that insight?

I ask as maybe we can help you get the same insight and more from the beta site.

The beta site does have a 'feedback' function where you can 'request a feature'. I believe they will ask the questions above as the answer may not be a report kike the old portal but a different type of dynamic viaualisation

I was using the daily reports as it gave a daily total summary of system performance etc.

Fed back via a beta portal big report that the daily reports and beta portal data didn't match a while ago - as mentioned it's not going to be fixed.

That said the beta portal data pages are far better and let you look at those numbers with custom options.

Hi, this is due to being in a transition period where we are currently only performing new development on the new portal and will no longer be updating the old portal. The reports feature was on the to do list with the developers in the new portal and due to the issues with the current reports being inaccurate we have pushed this up the chain and they are working on it right now, it should be available in the new portal very soon.

Hi;

Thanks for the various responses.

My responses to the questions from Seye above:

1) How often do you open old ones?
Every morning when I check my emails I open the reports sent. I loo at the report and then store every report sent to me on my server. Thus I have a full record of the daily, weekly and monthly performance of my system.

2) What questions are you using them to answer?
I am checking the performance of my system and trying to determine if I should add more battery storage and solar panels.

3) What insight to do hope to seen?
Whether I should add more battery storage and solar panels.

4) Make decisions about expanding the system.

My Comments about the "Beta Portal"

1) I accept that the beta portal offers more ways to display the data and offers additional information. Some of the new data is very useful.

2) I personally have not found a way of easily automatically exporting data from the beta portal on a daily basis. I accept that I 'could' go on to the beta site every day and take screen shots of the data, or download the data and generate my own graphs - but that is a lot of work.

At the moment I get, every day, a pdf report showing me exactly what happened yesterday - perfect, no fuss, I have a quick look at the report (this gives me an instant 'feel' of system performance) and then file the report on my server.

My daily reports from the old site are still showing incorrect data, I personally will miss the daily reports as it seems that they will be discontinued when the current web portal is closed.

I am please to hear that there will be a reports feature on the new portal (comment from Adam-Reynolds above) and I look forward to being able to get new accurate daily reports automatically sent to me from the new portal.

Regards - Jim

xtronix agree that the pdf based summary is useful for an at a glance performance, I've found the weekly and monthly ones pretty useful too.

Be good if a customized pdf report was available, that way you could add metrics you want to see/track.

Portal drivenanaswers to each question :

1) The beta portal us updated every 5 mins. All data is present. I also look at the system, everyday, in fact more regularly than that.

The "Energy Graph" card allows you to view data via day/week/month/Year/Custom

Each graphic has a date picker. All the data is there for inspection on demand. All in one place, dont have to open lots of files to access it it just use the nudge buttons or date picker
FOr custom just click in the date and those options are presented

Do ever open historical daily reports or just look at the information on the day it is provided?
Dynamic access is avaialble to make that data instantly avaialble

You are storing on your "server". Is that just storage or are you applying descondary processing to the reports. I am assuming just storage. If the data is on the GE Servers and easily accessible then why do you need to do that?
( I appreciate its a personal thing. My bank statements are produced every month as PDFs. I can access those online so choose not to download them as I trust the bank to store them. I actually dont use them anyway as I view the transaction record regulaly as that allows apply filters / sorts etc )

2) Assessing need for storage & PV

What logic are you applying to the information shown on the reports to inform you whether to "add more storage or PV". How are you using the report to inform you?

The energy usage card will give you that insight, or am I missing something? It shows where all the energy came from and where it went to. To get an idea if you could benefit with more storage use the "home" filter, If there is lots of red that is the scope for more storage or PV

The only thing it doesnt show is the time of day, but thats not on the reports either ( Thats relevent for additional storage if you can do lots of time shifting )

Daily "power card" shows all the detail, again date selectable. That shows time based snapshots of where power is coming from / to. The key one there i when PV starts ( or meets house demand ) and when battery runs out

3) Exporting data daily? Why?
You are not adding new calculations as using reports does not faciliate that. All the other information is available as described above.

Data is easily downloadable in the "inverter" card but it is only for a single day. It is easy to do but isnt automated. Maybe thats the capabilitity that would really help you. Add a data range t the download? Thats only of use of you would actually consume it.

The data is also easily availalbe via the APIs that have been made avaialble. Excel can use those to access the data and then it would just autorefresh. I havn't done that as the portal shows all the data anyway, but maybe thats the kind of thing another community member may wish to look at ( it would be straight forward to write a templatre xls that just takes credentials and calls the API ) I havnt done it as I don't see the value.

I do however use detailed data, but way more detailed than you are describing. I match to octopus tariffs to see what is peak / off peak consumtion. I bring in tariff rates to convert actual kWh to actual £ with what if scenarios for the furture. I also match to historic solar forcasts vs actual values.
I do all that to answer the the question you raise re investment. Thats not simple as it needs to do lots of work throughout the year to calculate the potential ROI

The old portal reports can't answer your question, neither can the new portal alone ( but it goes a long way )

Again, if I was writing that I would need to understand the ask. I still dont see what you are asking of the data that you can not see in the portal. I think the feature uplift being discussed here is actually your question re investment. I would suggest using the portal to "request a feature" as I would expect thats a differnt card entirley as it would eed to take into account lots of factors

The feature I know was spoken about in the past was personalisation. Thinking further I think that would meet your needs, assuming the beta portal can show the data you need.

Personalisation concept was to store "views" that you set up eg. filters, ranges, attributes etc. If you can get a card to show what you want you do currently loose those settings if you change to display different data. If there a stored views for the card I think that would meet the need, so 1 click button to show the card in the way you like, defaulting to your preferred config

Another feature that I beleive has been raised in the past is to allow a card to be duplicated, so same card showing 2 views concurrently and synced. That would be handy

Having had a look, I do like the "old" portal reports, especially the summaries with the %tges of energy use//generated etc.

Good News - my portal reports have returned and are now showing data!

Thanks to who ever sorted this.
