Inverter Settings

Good Morning all I am a newby and I am having issues, the Inverter keeps switching Disabled settings to Enabled on it's own accord charging the battery up during the daytime, exporting to the Grid etc, our Solar Panel and Battery Installers (we have 12 x Trina 375w solar panels a 3.6 Solis Inverter and a 5.2Kw Givenergy Battery) told us that there was a wiring issue to our Meters and if we had Smart Meters installed this would resolve any issues?? We've had the smart meters installed and are still having problems. I phoned Givenergy and they advised just to have the Eco setting enabled however our battery was charging up very slowly at night? Then importing into the Grid around 09:30 during the morning? I then switched the Eco setting to disabled and this morning the Timed Export switched itself to Enabled??? This again exported the energy to the Grid!! I have now set all my Inverter settings (Timed Charged, Timed Discharged and Timed Export) to 00:00 and currently have the Eco setting to disabled! Anybody know what exactly I should have the settings at so my solar panels charge my battery during sunny days and the house uses the battery energy first before importing from the Grid?

You should reset all of the settings to deault and then make sure that Eco is on. Nothing else should be needed, unless you have a cheap electricity tariff (e.g. Economy 7).

If you still see strange behaviour, or settings which are changing without you doing anything, then you might want to check that there are no automations which are over-riding your system (e.g GivTCP, Home Assistant, smart tariffs etc.) - but that is not an area I am strong on. Also, if you post a picture of your power flow graph from the Portal, it will help others on here to help diagnose the issue.

Your smart meter should not have anything to do with your system operation.

ToothyChris Hi Chris thanks for getting back to me, since I put the post up the Timed Export switched itself to Enabled even though I have it set to Disabled but set at 00:00 - 00:00 and the battery is now 93% fully charged from the solar panels which is good. However I am totally puzzled as to why different settings keep switching themselves to Enabled! Will resetting to the Default settings resolve these issues?

MikeSolar Do you have Octopus automations set? In the absence of Octopus automations and Givtcp (if neither of these make any sense to you, then you don't need to look any further), do a factory reset on the inverter (Web portal - Inverter Card - Settings - Rest to Defaults) and restart the inverter (same card, power button top right). This should put the inverter into ECO mode (minimises grid import/export by supplying house load from battery/charging battery from diverted export). That's it. Nothing else is needed ... unless you want to charge the battery on an off-peak tariff? If so, set timed charge to your off-peak window, then set your Charge to % (inverter card - setting - timed charge) to whatever you want to end the timed charge period with in the battery and click on Enable - Submit.

If there are still issues with the inverter doing it's own thing, a call to Givenergy would be in order.

Resetting to defaults will just get you back to a known simple setup (i.e. Eco only), but it probably won't resolve the issue. If lots of things have changed, it is often a good thing to do before investigating further.

It might be worth looking in your inverter logs (seen at the bottom of the Inverter => Remote Control page, in the Portal), to see if you get any clues about who/what is making the changes to the settings.

If not, then hopefully someone else may be able to comment on the possibility of automations (GivTCP, Home Assistant, smart tariffs) being the cause.

With these being such complicated systems, and with almost no visibility of what is happening at your end, the more clues you can give use (including screenshots) the better.
