Hi

I have 2x 9.5kw batteries with an ac inverter each. My installer has just found out we needed to put in a G99 (because the batteries can export up to 6kw total) when he was about to add extra panels to my current 3.6kw solar inverter. Frustrating to have the delay of application before we can finish the installation. Is there anyway to avoid the G99? Thanks

CharlieC Yes, by limiting your export to 3.6kw so you remain within a deemed G98. Don't even think about not letting the DNO know you want to export 6kw. You have no way of knowing the local capacity and the effect you might have on your neighbours (e.g. causing grid over voltage and potentially damaging sensitive equipment).

@CharlieC @cluelesscris's statement isn't quite right but you're OK. As long as all of the individual microgeneration inverters are G98 type tested (as AC3s are, and your existing inverter is presumably), your installer can apply for a G99 Fast Track, which is supposed to be with the DNO before work begins but you don't have to receive their agreement before commissioning, and you do need to limit export to 3.68kW (or whatever the previous installation was limited to if lower).

This is counter-intuitive since the three inverters together could put out over 9kW (from PV and battery, but why would you?). The G99 Fast Track only applies when all of the inverters are G98 type tested but the total installed capacity exceeds 3.68kW. Even if you volunteered a 3.68kW export limit, if the inverters aren't G98 type tested (eg HY5s are G99), the fast track route isn't available and a full G99 is requuired.
