What is the maximum AC3 inverter output?

Well, I know that the spec sheet says that it's 3000W but in my experience I have never seen this figure in practice.

On both the GivEnergy portal and the myenergi app, the highest I have ever seen is 2800W and at this point the battery is outputting 3300W for an inverter output of 2800W (which makes sense due to DC/AC conversion losses).

Is the maximum battery output limiting the inverter output?

All I can do is check my data, the highest charge rate I can see is 2997watts, highest output I can see is 2885w. But obviously for me that is a snapshot every 5 minutes. So it might have a few peaks over 3000. Highest battery output I can see is 3431w.

I've just checked again using the 'System Data' tab on the inverter controls and the highest value (sorting inverter power column descending) I can find over the last few months or so for the inverter power is 2894W. Do I settle for 96.5% of the specified performance...I suppose so.

Too much data is a terrible thing for me. πŸ˜…

judgepd 96.5% is the Euro rated efficiency target with 97.1 for the rest of the world. So you are spot on! 3000w is a good target, the hybrid's 2600 limit is still good but does mean using grid for a top up. 3500watt would be the sweet spot for single heavy use items plus background etc so it is good enough for me. Though as mentioned in a previous thread if the AC5 was a thing and available I would of went for that.

Ah, so the real maximum is 96.5% of 3000W, that's good to know. I'll have to just buy a lower wattage kettle!

judgepd I bought a temperature control kettle. Can set it from 15c to 100c in 5c increments. So coffee is made at 85c and tea at 95c etc etc. Now if only I could convince my son not to fill the kettle every time he wants 1 mug of hot water!

THALL Your son may not be bothered about saving the electricity, but tell him the kettle will boil much sooner with less water in it and he won't have to wait as long, and he might be persuaded. πŸ˜€

kwmc Sadly no, he will not wait for the kettle, he will boil it go away and do something and come back and boil it again regardless of how much water is in it. My step daughter used to do the same thing. Fill it first thing in the morning, boil it, then go get change or find a program on sky she wanted to watch then come back to it. I think she has amended her ways now she has her own house and bills mind you!

We now have one of these NeoStar Perma-Therm 3.5 Litre Instant Thermal Hot Water Boiler & Dispenser
Bought it via ebay, rather than Scotts of Stow, as the price was lower, but turned out when it was delivered it was from the same group of companies!
You can set it to keep warm at various temperatures and then just boost it up when you want a hot drink.
It is insulated, so tends to keep the heat in quite well. The max wattage is lower than a normal kettle, so a better match for the AC3 & Solar PV.
Also, it has a timer delay, so at night you can set it to come on so many hours later, ready to boil in time for breakfast. Useful as we are on Go Faster until 06:30, so it heats up during the cheap rate.

Woodlands got something similar, Morphy Richards job that boils up to 2 litres at 3 pre set temperatures.

It'll do 2 cups at once if you wind the amount up via the dial. Pulls about 3kw during heating but probably not much different from a normal kettle.

Had no issues with it and its better than the Bosch version (Quick cup I think) I had before.

The 3.0 can output 3.4kw.

The limit is the BMS not the inverter.

If you have 2x8.2 bateries on a single 3.0, then the BMS is no longer the limiting factor, the inverter is.

I definately have peak of 3.4 now - when I was on one battery I would peak at 2.9

@THALL @anabanet That seems really odd as the data plate on the side of my AC3 definitely says maximum charge and discharge of 3000W. Also, when the inverter is outputting 2.9kW the battery is already discharging at 3.3kW.

Would be nice to get some confirmation from GivEnergy but it's not the end of the world either way.

judgepd So the unit would allow a max range of 3030 - 3930w. 15a @ 202 - 262v. Been a long time since done electrics (higher school 20 years ago!) So is it 2424 - 3144? Resistive or inductive load? Christ I can't remember!!!

THALL watts is pure resistive load. Va and var are capacitive and reactive - as you will remember the mix gives you a power factor 1 being pure resistive and more than 1 capacitive and less than 1 reactive. Not that it’s done that way normally, rather from -0 to +0
Most buildings end up being about -0.9

anglefire Ok thank you, so the range on this by the spec sheet would be 0.9 x 15 x 202 up to 0.9 x 15 x 262 so 2727w - 3537w depending the voltage at the time. Does that sound correct to everyone?

If you have an EM115 meter it'll display current PF when it's cycling through readings. The beta portal downloadable data also has a col. for it as its not shown in the portal directly.
Thus concludes my pointless information.

THALL Sorry, missed that one.
Although the range for the GE kit is 202 - 262 I think the voltage range realistically is more tied more by the DNO Voltage limits (230V: -6% / +10%) so more like 216 to 253 before the inverter should technically stop.

I know the upper bound of 253V is a stopper as i've hit it before in summer, with the rest of the street exporting.
Not sure about the lower bound as my normal voltage is 245 it's never gone anywhere near it.

hoggy So that makes the safe limit 3415w and if you are seeing that your local grid voltage is a tad high? In the most simplest of terms it just means the voltage is high.

I had to contact my DNO to complain about grid voltage going over top limit (up to 256V!) a while back - it was tripping out my solar inverter. They kindly adjusted some transformer tappings to bring it down, and it has been fine ever since. I have to say that their response was pretty quick.

I have the opposite problem, I have a great output of up to 3400w but only getting a max of 2850w when charging overnight which means the 6 hour cheap charging window won't top the 2x9.5kwh batteries up as far as it might. I am struggling to get a response from Giv that makes any sense - does anyone have any ideas?
