Multiple batteries. Failing to sync SOC

I have a Gen1 5kw Hybrid inverter with
3 x 8.2kw batteries
Installed 2020

I have not monitored closely in the past but believe the batteries kept reasonably in sync with similar SOC (charge levels) at all times.

For the last few months I have had an issue with the batteries being out of sync and divergence between SOC batteries divergence getting worse.

Despite raising with @Givenergy @GarethJones we don't seem to be making progress to resolution. e.g. Recalibration has been tried several times which has only resolved matters for a single charge/discharge cycle at best.

e.g. last few days with Reserve set as 4%

Overnight:
aggregate 4% and now idle
Primary 29%
Batt1 0%
Batt2 0%

Yesterday evening:
aggregate 39% and
Primary 66%
Batt1 32%
Batt2 25%

yesterday morning:
aggregate 4% and therefore discharge stopped & idle
Primary 23%
Batt1 3%
Batt2 1%

previous day limited solar has included
aggregate 16%
Primary 32%
Batt1 15%
Batt2 13%

aggregate 23%
Primary 40%
Batt1 21%
Batt2 19%

aggregate 25%
Primary 42%
Batt1 23%
Batt2 20%

divergence obviously means the capacity of the batteries is not used properly for charge or discharge and is not available for EPS etc.
Have asked Givenergy to investigate & escalate - so far they have tried recalibration without success. Not getting much feedback on further actions.

Anyone else seeing similar issues? Any suggestions?

Yes, all the time with 2 x 8.2 batteries. The SoC can vary by as much as 35%, which means that the aggregated charge can show single figures when one battery has 20% charge.
At the top end, one battery hits 100% which then stops all charging even when the other battery is at 85-90%. Many times I also get one battery jumping from 90% to 100%.

It all boils down to the battery system not delivering the stated capacity.

This GE system really is very, very poor. They've known about these problems for well over a year. Lots of missed promises. Loads of chat in the beta thread. Yet no real resolution. To top it off my 14 month old system is apparently too old to receive the latest firmware.

As far as I can see, GE are very happy to continue to ride the massively buoyant market and sell systems that they 100% know are not working properly. Trading Standards should be investigating this cowboy company.

I'm pretty sure my system was working fine but not sure exactly when this problem started. I'm thinking it was during the 22/23 winter as I think I would have noticed in the summer last year.

If its firmware .. does that mean the inverter firmware?

If there are issues with Gen1 then I would hope an upgrade to Gen2 could be offered as an option - if that's what is needed to resolve it.

Knowledgeable & helpful Givenergy engineer visit today as arranged. From the log data he was sent as they thought there might be a faulty cell in one battery. Partly based on the voltage data that he said gave more reliable information than SOC. Sounded feasible?

However when stripping down offending battery discovered several connections were not tight by 2 or 3 full turns. Obviously not good! Cleaned up and remade connections. Checked other batteries (which were fine). Started a calibration.

I will monitor in coming days. His view was that the firmware update may not make a difference but will apply it once released.

That's going to be difficult to fix with firmware! I wonder how many other batteries haven't been torque-checked?

Tim I guess its worth reviewing data for voltage as well as SOC in case there is anything to glean. i would've thought the loose connection issue is rare but perhaps not a one off. In my case I'm not sure what the voltage differences were or what range is considered "normal"?

If I understand correctly the normal voltage should be 51.2VDC - from the Features information
But will be higher at peak charge and less at full discharge? As mentioned I dont know what range should be considered normal? I will kick off a thread to ask

Zakalwe I am certainly considering complaining to trading standards, my MP and possibly HIES also if the 'next firmware update' doesn't sort out the SOC problems with the 8.x batteries. Installed october 2021, first incident occurred in Jan 22 and I've been through three rounds of 'the next firmware update will fix this' and none of them have. Then a full outage for 3 months last year which GE resisted having anyone look at because of arguing with an installer over who pays for visits.

I want to be clear I haven't an issue with any GE employees they've all be great: but this product is inherently faulty and GE are not doing enough about it.

Edit - had another recalibration run today and there was a jump from 80 to 100 on the way back up, sigh. On the other hand, looks like the new firmware is literally about to deploy as of this very morning so I guess I just need to wait for the magic update button on my settings screen. Fingers crossed it'll operate something close to it's full range now. Also I removed my rant cos it wasn't helpful - suffice to say I'm not impressed with the first 18 months of the product in terms of reliability, I could do without the anxiety.
