I know that GE are going through scaling up challenges as the demand for solar explodes in the UK. My battery died four weeks ago (clicking/crunching sounds on battery start up and then shutsdown) and have been in the queue to get an engineer appointment since then. Curious to know what the engineer wait time is looking like for others? I'm in East England.

Engineer wait times
I'm afraid the problem is with the inverter, not the battery. I had the same issue in October 2022.
You can do a simple test by pushing down the circuit breaker between the battery and the inverter, and then restart the battery (press the small button on the side). If it starts normally and stays on, you will need a new battery board in the inverter. I am in Wales. I had to wait around 2 weeks.
I had the same situation yesterday, the inverter is playing up. The battery keeps shutting down.
GivEnergy phone support said it would be 4 to 6 weeks before an engineer would be able to visit.
I've since had a email saying 3 to 4 weeks.
Either way it's an incredibly long time to wait.
godfreym You have a good case for claiming suitable compensation where a company can't fulfil its obligations for warranty repairs etc. Mention that to them. Hopefully more service engineers are in training - you can't sell stuff and then fail to support it.
Presumably your installer has identified that it's a GE issue?
sponev I phoned GE and spoke to Tech Support and explained what had happened. They asked for an email with the sequence of events I'd gone through restarting the solar & battery, and the resulting light sequences, etc. Plus they asked for a video.
I got an email reply later in the day, stating that GE would need to visit and check it.
godfreym It does sound like an issue with the GE kit unfortunately. Hopefully they can improve on the wait time, way too long. If my shower or cooker failed under warranty it would be a couple of days max, not weeks.
I had this problem with my battery. GE swapped inverter and changed battery BMS. This communication fault between battery and inverter appears to be an issue the early Gen2 hybrids. It took 5 weeks to get a GE engineer to visit.
Mine failed in late August/early September of last year and I've had no functioning batteries since then. I am in Ireland. I had purchased the GE system through a company called NextGen. The engineer came with the replacement inverter today and fitted it. While the wait times in the UK are bad, by comparison I envy the swift response times.

Glen 😱
TX200 You can say that again :-)
godfreym Have you had any progress on getting an engineer appointment? I'm up to 5 weeks waiting and really not happy about it. I've been understanding and polite so far, but really considering trying to escalate now. I put a system like this on par with any other utility or appliance and have never had to wait this long before for repair.
tk2 Back in July 2021 I had to wait over 2 wks for a failed inverter to be fixed and I guess the solar/battery market has gone mental since then...
tk2 I haven't heard anything more yet. It only failed on Wednesday last week though (5 days ago).
