Nothing quite like a cloudy day!

The title is tongue in cheek (of course we’d all rather have bright sunshine), but as I’m still awaiting DNO approval/confirmation?, I’m not receiving any Smart Export Guarantee payments at the moment, so any excess solar is benefiting my energy supplier. Today was overcast with thick cloud and it’s taken all day to charge the 9.5kWh battery to 83% from around 32%. Export to the grid today: 0Wh

Any idea how long it takes to get DNO approval? Does it depend on your region?

I got my MCS and DNO certificate/letter exactly one day after commissioning by email.

I should add however, it has been 7 days so far that Octopus has requested my export MPAN for SEG. Is that what you are waiting for?

#4 Hook

Took me one day for DNO cert, about 6 weeks for MPAN.

I had the DNO 'Offer Letter' back end-October 2022, the forms were sent back not long after, which included an address correction (the DNO has the old address for my home, but the name was changed 15 years ago) but I'm still waiting on the G99 and the export MPAN.
A frustrating day of generation here. We had sun first thing, then the clouds came over, which didn't clear until mid-afternoon, then sun which was too late to hit our SE-facing panels.
Feels a bit like the damn cloud ate our solar for the majority of the day!

FiferMG4 In the same boat here, my DNO says upto 65 days on their website 🙁 Probably best to google your provider g99/g98 approval time.

ProximusAl I have my MCS, but I’ve been told by my installer that the DNO is rather slow at present.

#8 FiferMG4

ProximusAl No, I’m yet to reach that stage. Once I get the DNO letter, then I’ll apply for SEG.

Hook Wow! Your DNO doesn’t mess about.

My DNO with Northern Power took about 10 days, call them up as my letter was sent to my installer. I requested it via email and it was sent straight away.

Got set up with new Mpan for export with octopus in less than two weeks which I was surprised about. I was expecting 6 weeks as we have never exported before.

miffy What I wouldn’t give for your generation! 😅 This was Fife today. Nothing much over 500 W. Hmm, interesting that some of us get all the paperwork in order quick smart and others have to wait a good while. 🤔

thewhalw21 Good call. I’ll see what I can find thanks.

Leon_shaw That sounds alright, Leon. 👍

FiferMG4 Eek! However, I am a heck of a long way from Fife! About 380miles to be exact! I'm in Gloucester.
I have a 5.2kW system facing SE.

I waited 3 weeks for an MPAN then I got fed up and contacted Octopus to see what was going on. An hour later my MPAN was registered on my account and I was all set up for export. So it looks like Octopus had it all along and they were just sitting on it! God knows how long they had it for. Would suggest you contact your supplier.

miffy I see you’ve got some decent weather headed your way. Next week can’t be worse than this week for Fife. Hoping to charge the car. 🌞🤞

Odinias That’s good advice thanks.

FiferMG4 I'm sticking with a petrol car for now. Besides, I love my cute little Adam S, 1.4T even though it only does 38mpg!
I've no chance of charging an electric car from my home PV when I can't even fill my house batteries. Admittedly, we have 2x 9.5kWh GE batteries, and I run my home computing off a Bluetti 5kWh UPS battery that I charge up from the solar/mains once a day. At the moment, we rarely generate even 24kWh a day, and we use at least 20kW a day. Not being able yet to go on Octopus Flux due to still waiting for the G99 is incredibly annoying, especially as I'm on the Octopus standard tariff of 32.81p/kWh.

miffy Fortunately, our house and appliances are very efficient as we consume on average 5kW a day, so on a sunny day there is plenty of solar generation left to fill up the car.

That’s a nice little pocket rocket, the Adam S turbo! I’ll bet you enjoy driving that.

I hope the G99 comes through soon miffy. 🤞
