What to do if firmware didn’t update?

Hi there, I have an AC3 and 9.5 battery. I tried to do the BMS update but it failed, it started, the battery level shot up to 100% but I got a failed notification an hour later. I have seen @TheDragon (GivEnergy) posting on a few threads of doing manually, but is this my only option? Should I contact support? If I do the “cleanup” of the Wi-Fi dongle that is recommended could the automatic approach work? I haven’t had too many issues with SoC jumping, but it sounds like it will inevitably happen. It also sounds like there is a new inverter firmware coming. I’m not really sure what the right approach is now, especially if there is no way to update without manual intervention. I am reluctant to risk more potential issues.

Restart the inverter from the my inverter web portal page, then try the firmware update again

Also make sure the battery is still on!

If that still fails, email support.

Thanks. Will give it a go. Sorry for double post - was on a train, clearly caused issues! Of course, after saying I don’t have SoC drop issues the battery dropped from 40% to 0 just now

Boffinboy Its corrupted files stopping it, so I think as you say you would need to clean up the dongle to remove any corrupt files, but make sure you backup/ leave the MSN file intact. There may also be bad data on the battery usb to remove as well (that should be empty). Once they are gone, can't see why you couldn't try again.

Otherwise support would send you the file, which is loaded onto the battery usb. You would then need to request a calibration

Thanks. Have tried again and looks like it’s failed. Will try and message support.

Boffinboy Is it failing at 95% or earlier?

If it fails at verifying 95%, the battery USB is the issue.
If i had your serial, i would have send you the file already. Its easy to do, hardest part is if the USB is glued in, getting it out

That's what mine is doing - freezing at 95%. ED2248G624.

TheDragon (GivEnergy) thank you. I should have included earlier. looks like it gets stuck at 95%. To be clear, the notification takes a while to say it’s failed, and I see repeated attempts to restart in the log. Serial is CE2142G312

Hi TheDragon (GivEnergy) I wondered if you’d be able to help me with my firmware update please (see 2 posts up) - have tried twice but it reports failed after approx 2 hours.

(FYI I did email via the support address but haven’t had a response as yet)

Cheers

Support replied to say they’ve successfully updated mine remotely, the SoC dropped down and then has shot back up. Haven’t received any notifications. They have asked about triggering a calibration. The inverter still seems to be reporting 3009 in the dashboard, so not sure exactly what’s happening! Hopefully that’s normal and they will resolve it.

Boffinboy unfortunately looks like the calibration didn’t kick off and firmware itself didn’t update - waiting to hear back from support

I had to remove the battery USB and upload the are firmware manually - it seems to have worked correctly, but just need GE to initiate the calibration now.

Haddock how did you contact support? I had a response via email, but then they went silent!

I just emailed support@givenergy.co.uk and they sent instructions on what to do along with the firmware file - getting the USB stick out is a bit fiddly as glued in.

Turning into a bit of a palaver! USB was hard to remove, can’t get firmware to take manually. Got to call them and try again.

Unfortunately the manual approach hasn’t worked, even after trying different USB sticks, reformatting etc over a number of calls to support over the weekend. Helpful, but have had to escalate. Waiting for an update as to next steps. Unfortunately it seems to have totally thrown the system off as the battery performs as if it has a fraction of the capacity now.
