Hi - I am struggling to get an answer out of the email help line. I have the 3kw AC inverter and 2x 9.5kwh batteries. The max charge rate I ever get is 2.8kw but the max discharge is consistently around 3.4kw. I am fine with the discharge rate, but because the charge rate is lower than I expected the batteries won't fully charge from the 6 hour intelligent Octopus tariff. Not a problem in summer but I would love to get the charge rate up a bit. Is this a 'fault' or a'feature'?

That is actually slightly higher than the "normal" discharge rate. What were you expecting from a 3.0kW inverter? The charge rate is also in line with specs. Both are pretty much what my AC3.0 does.
I was expecting 3kw! But I am really happy it is achieving 3.4 on the discharge side as it stops me having to go to the grid for higher loads. I just wondered why the charge rate was so much lower and whether there is any tuning that could be done

My charge rate is usually just bout 2911w constant and discharge 3090, but factoring in some conversion loss etc it will be sub 3kw. Is your inverter temp nice and cool? Mine hits 50c even with some fans and being outside. Checking my logs for last year my AC3 hit 63.3c! Toasty!

Campion395 I think it's the difference between power measured at the inverter and power measured at the battery. For your inverter to discharge at 3kW, due to conversion losses the battery will discharge at more than 3kW. The reverse happens when charging i.e. when the inverter is charging at 3kW, again due to conversion losses, the charge added to the battery will be less than 3kW.

As above your seeing the "raw" power the battery is handling.
the AC side is limited to 3000W but there are losses (heat) between it and the battery as part of the conversion so:
3000W AC going in to the charger = 2800W DC makes it to the battery
3400W DC going to the (dis)charger = 3000W AC going to the house.
Thanks, yep that all makes some sense, looking at the inverter stats it never quite gets to 3.0kw but i can see the losses happening as you describe. To @THALL point the inverter temp was hitting 54C today after dragging the batteries up to 100% after the firmware update. Everything is inside our cool garage so I think that's helping. Thanks for your explanations, @hoggy and @judgepd - I guess I need to hope that Octopus give us another cheap hour for next winter!
