Exporting when battery has capacity

Still a new user but struggling to work out why, even if a transient state, we'd be exporting over 1kW when the 8.2kWh still had at least 12% available? Is it simply that the 5 min capture has been unlucky and caught the system not responding quickly enough to the sun emerging from a cloud? Seems unlikely?

I also see import and export of s few (up to 30 or so) Watts when no need. Assuming this is a rounding error somewhere and just trivial?

Very much enjoying seeing how this works and to see how much potential there is for further sophistication.

I log locally and I see the odd dribble of export most of the as the load/solar varies. The inverter can't react instantly to the transients and the grid is the stable buffer.
Today I have seen a export peak of 1.8Kw - but the spike only lasted one scan cycle - so less than 10seconds.

Ah OK so it is just transient? I am puzzled though why exporting from solar generation is counted as transient as the sun coming out on a fairly cloudy day isn't exactly a fast process I think?

I don't have anywhere to store the screenshot of the app from my phone for posting here. It shows 2.4kW PV, 311W consumption by the house, 6W discharging (88% full battery) and 2.1kW being exported (at the time only 0.3kWh exported today). Is the export total so small that this is just noise and I should ignore it? I am interested to know why the control software decided to export 2.1kW when the battery is ready for it though - even if just for my interest!

Its just the speed of change and you happened to catch it when it was exporting. My total for yesterday was 0.3kWh.

Epatrickt yeah exactly that.

If you wanted to check independently then assuming you have a smart meter look at your export total at the start of the day and again at the same time the following day. It'll give you an idea of your total export (obviously subtracting any intended PV export values).

Next few days would be a good test as my local forecast is very wet tomorrow!

I was wondering about this. Seeing high import and exports (on an IHD) when things like the cooker turn on and off, but looking at my inverter card, meter data, I’m exporting just 400w a week.

Reading the export meter / smart meter export reading is a good idea too. I do that once a month.

I have had my first full month EXPORT 'bill' from Octopus, and the amount I 'exported' unintentionally is significantly less than the Givenergy portal suggests. During my 'export window' 4pm to 7pm Givenergy and Octopus agree to about 1% difference - They both agree around 12kw of export.

During the 'non export window' when I was seeing grid export (when say the microwave turned off or such ), Givenergy overreports this amount vs Octopus by around 4 times.

Based on this I am going to fit an independent import / export meter, but my feeling is that Givenergy is better at minimising transient export/import than their own system reports.
