New GivEnergy charger

Hi everyone, does anyone know when the GivEnergy charger is going to be released and at what price. I'm considering to wait instead of going for Zappi to have all devices well integrated under one app. Thanks

I asked this question at the Fully Charged Show in Harrogate where GivEnergy had a stand. The charger is in beta testing and they advised 3-6 months before release. Marketing would make the decision. If released early it may not be 100% perfect but updates would follow. No prices were known.

How much testing can there be in an EV charger. Power in, power out and a switch ? Unless we are over complicating things with firmware and stuff.

Does anyone know if using the GE charger with GE inverter/batteries will give greater control of where the charger takes power from? i.e. can you stop it draining batteries at night and just charge by time of day tariff?

This is all sounding quite positive. Just about to hit go to update my Inverter FW. If this fixes the SOC bug, I may yet consider the GivEnergy EV charger again. Both of my friends with Zappis have quite a lot of trouble getting it to do what they want. Also seems very expensive for what it is, given the alternative is charging off peak on Octopus Go.

This sounds very positive, only just had a Zappi installed (for free thankfully as part of car scheme) but can already see how this might be a problem, as it currently sees batteries discharging the same as solar generation. Likewise, the batteries just see charging as a house load.

If the car ever turns up, I will explore more and see if a few well placed CT clamps can resolve things. I want to be able to keep the batteries for the house and charge the car from excess solar and time of day tariffs only. First one seems to be accounted for (Zappi looks for export via CT clamp) but not the second one.

I'm getting a EV - was sometime between December and Feb next year - but the estimate was brought forward to sometime between September and November - I had decided on a Zappi (Installed by OctopusEV who is supplying the car via their salary sacrifice scheme) rather than the standard Ohme - but if the GivEnergy one becomes available it sounds like it might play nicely better - but time will tell!

To get around this, you can set the Zappi to ECO+ with 100% Minimum Green Level. These settings ensure that the Zappi only diverts export to EV when it exceeds the 1.4kW minimum specified by the EV charging standard. We've been using this setting for over 12 months and the EV never discharges the Givenergy battery (unless we want it to during a calibration).

Out of curiosity is there any chance that third party chargers might be at least recognised in the app so power flows can be accounted for (and not just lumped into “house load”?

Smk82 If Givenergy had the will, this could be quite easy to fix. An additional EM115 configured as "EV charger" could be added into the mix. It would require Givenergy to tweak their portal to identify the energy recorded by the EM115 as a third party EV charger (or ASHP etc) but would be generic for any make/model.

Tim would at least make figures more accurate.
