Can you log onto the dongle? Ie can you connect to the dongles own AP and then log into the dongles webpage and connect to your WiFi from there?

Done and no luck, even set up WiFi again

I've been over three weeks with no connection with same symptoms - I even bought a brand new dongle and set that up to no avail. My installer is being a little slow to respond (putting it mildly). My best guess is that sometimes an inverter restart is required and no matter how much you reset the dongle it wont work... but yet to be proven!

Hmm not good

Find an Android phone, connect to internet, and download this app from the play store
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=uk.rubikcube.invertermonitor

Then in the android settings, change the wifi network to the dongle.

Start the app and enter your inverter IP Address as 10.10.100.254

Within a few minutes the dongle should stop flashing and data should appear in the app confirming that you have a working dongle.

Won't connect to dongle says no internet

Sorted thanks

Well done. Once you have proved the dongle works, you still need to connect it to the portal. If having trouble with the wifi connection, try temporarily setting your router to no encryption. This will identify if the problem lies with the ssid or with the password/encryption.

Can you expand on what changed between no internet and sorted?

Not connecting to WiFi might mean the WiFi signal at the inverter is too weak or non-existent. To obviate that problem I use a powerline adapter that gives me a strong signal in my garage. It was primarily installed for my car. There was no problem with connecting the inverter yesterday.

Roy124 I use a powerline adapter in the garage which has worked well for a couple of years. My Android phone sometimes connects to it instead of the main WIFI, and maybe gets confused when switching back and forth? Sometimes, when I cannot get HOME on the App, I disconnect from WIFI and reconnect again and it usually sorts itself out.

Coming in a bit late but there is a GivEnergy knowledgebase document 'Installation and Configuration of the GivEnergu USB Communications Device (Dongle)' which can help with misbehaving dongles. One of the things you can do is plug the dongle into a PC and connect to it there to configure or reset it.
Also, the WIFI dongle can't see UK WIFI channels 12 and 13 ๐Ÿ™

alan_johnston the WIFI dongle can't see UK WIFI channels 12 and 13

Thatโ€™s interesting and may be the reason why some people have difficulties

Tim Sure did with mine. Installer and GivEnergy kept telling me to move the router nearer the wifi dongle even when they were almost touching! Then I remembered when we had a friend from the USA visit and he couldn't connect to our WIFI because his USA phone didn't know about channels 12 and 13 (and the WIFI was on 13). I guessed that maybe the GivEnergy WIFI dongle wasn't configured for UK use so changed the WIFi channel on my router to 11 and the GivEnergy dongle burst into life.

Subsequent tests showed that the GivEnergy WIFI dongle was not able to see WIFI channels 12 and 13 and was only 2.4GHz based (no 5GHz WIFI at all).

I was having most of the same issues connecting to my router, I fixed it by using a Wi-Fi extender. It only took 5 minutes to set up
This is the link to Amazon but you can buy the device from a number of places.

Another person here using a wifi extender (TP Link 350) in the garage - had to suppress the 5GHz signal for the initial commissioning connection.

Have another extender for upstairs coverage in the house -works a treat.

Hi there, have those dongles been known to fail? I have a Gen 1 inverter and no matter what I try I cannot get it to connect to my Wi-Fi - It connected previously and never dropped out but for the last several days nothing.

NiallKilleen have those dongles been known to fail

In theory anything can fail, but the dongles have no moving parts, consume less than 1W, and don't even get warm, so I would expect them to be reliable. You can test the dongle without connecting it to your network.

Rubikcube is there any specific reason it must be an android and not apple? Am asking as have been having problems logging on to reboot the inverter using iPhone and iPad.

Reliabiltiy wise It's the lowest part of the inverter so if it's mounted outside the dongle is the first place water ends up.

AAW I am expecting that my GE equipment will last at least 10 years, and hoping that it will last for 20 years. I am slightly concerned that GE might not last that long and the portal could disappear if GE goes bust. Therefore I wanted a solution that can provide historic data independent of the portal.

Unfortunately Apple make it near impossible to use IOS as a server running 24/7. Google just make it difficult. ๐Ÿ™‚

If you think of this app as an alternative to Home Assistant, then you realise that you cannot run HA on IOS either (although there is a client app that can connect to your HA box).

Another choice would be Windows, but Windows machines generally have a higher power requirement when left on 24/7.

Android devices are available from many sources, and if you just want to test a dongle you could ask a friend with one if they could assist.

Rubikcube I'm running HA on a Raspberry Pi 4 which runs 24/7.
