Hi I've a hopefully quick question / clarification about the AIO with a Giv-Gateway. I'm on the verge of signing up to get one installed but I'm unsure exactly what monitoring capabilities I'll get with the Gateway, and the proposed installer is being a bit slow to answer my questions.

Am I right in assuming (looking at the install diagrams) that the Gateway has places for CT clamps for the PV generation, the demand from the house, and the grid connection, or something like that? So if it is installed correctly then I should be able to monitor PV generation, battery charge/discharge, demand from the house, and see how much is being imported/exported from/to the grid?

For info I have an existing Solaredge inverter (ca 2016ish model) with 4kW panels.

Barns Yes. But the data directly from your solaredge will be more accurate of PV generation. The gateway will be accurate for grid monitoring etc. CT's are ok though.

THALL Thanks! That's all I needed to know really. Shame I can't do finer grained monitoring like tracking the heat pump separately but maybe I'll look into that another way.

I’m planning to use a Gateway with a solaredge or other inverter. One thing I do want to make sure though is that I can monitor the battery output by CT so the car charger doesn’t drain the battery. 👍

kram Did you say you have a zappi? As the AIO is an AC coupled your setup will need an extra CT on your zappi or harvi device to monitor the battery. It gives some nice options for using the battery to charge the car too.

Example, setting eco mode draws 1.4kw and it will pull from the battery but thats handy in the evenings when the sun is low generating sub 1.4kw but you don't want to waste that bit of sun going to grid. Turn on ECO and the battery simply tops up.

ECO+ solar only, will not draw from the battery, still needs 1.4kw excess sun, the battery will suck up anything below that.

Boost charge on the schedule will drain the battery BUT only to the minimum charge level set on the battery. If your timed charge window is set on the zappi and on the AIO.

It just works. The only issue is turning on ECO mode, I have forgotten once or twice to turn it back to ECO+and emptied the house battery into the car..... not a big problem. Once or twice in 12 months is not the end of the world!

kram exactly as @THALL says, as this is my setup (2xAC plus 2x8.2). Ok sunny days like today, I’ve set my batteries to retain 15% of their charge (sufficient to get me through to generating again) them the rest goes to car and house. Cuts my import amount during the cheap period. As it’s AC coupled as he says you can just use another CT clamp to monitor via ME app and use the avoid drain/charge/both functions to control how you wish things to operate.

with two AC3;s do you need two ct clamps also?

Can not confirm this, but i think you would need 2, so most likely need a harvi device. Only £50 ish though. If I see a deal on second hand AC3 i'll be able to confirm this :-)

Got a harvi already so a grid, solar and battery were planned for. I did expect it to work, but just wanted to make sure there are suitable locations for the CT to clamp to.

On each ac3 inverter do you mean? I dont think the ct clamp could measure the battery output?

positor1 if your referring to in the myenergi app, they can distinguish if it’s AC coupled (like the the AC3 or AIO)

Smk82 @positor1 A CT can only detect alternating current, but if the CT is on the mains cable to the AC-connected inverter, it's effectively measuring "the battery". If your installer has wired your AC-connected to a "solar" consumer unit, ready for further inverters to be added, as long as the "solar" consumer unit only connects to inverters with MCBs and to the house consumer unit through the isolator, then a single CT on the "Solar" consumer unit to house consumer unit cable would provide the data required by the ME app. We have dual hybrids and have one additional CT for the Zappi which shows how much power is coming from our "solar" consumer unit.

I was mostly curious due to the gateway having breakers in it for car and solar as to if that would cause any issues mounting the CT
