i read somewhere that UPS can be enabled if you have EPS wired up which swaps power much quicker. does it still work with a manual changeover switch? or has it got to be automatic?

a changeover switch would have no bearing on the UPS setting as that is just a register (internal setting) that can be turned on.
Smk82 As @positor1 says, it doesn't matter what hardware you have for switching because turning the EPS into UPS is a register setting that Givenergy can change for you if you request it. Or rather (I believe) @TheDragon (GivEnergy) had it done, but whether that was a one-off, or if it generally available, I don't know.
UPS isn't really an issue for us. We have the home assistant server (and broadband router and MyEnergi hub and FireAngel hub and Boiler Controller etc) on EPS and it would be better not to be switched off rather than shut down, but by the time I got to see if they were working, they would be. I have an old APC UPS which I could plug in to cater for the short disconnection, but TBH, that's as likely to introduce a mode of failure that I really don't need to be concerned about.

Tim If you need the faster switch over, its a setting that can be activated.

Please could you also enable it on inverter SA2142G227 when you can. Plan is to use it for critical loads in my workshop, where the inverter is (mostly the computer cupboard and some emergency lights)
Tim In my day job, supporting networking and servers on 65 sites around the country from 2000 to 2016, when I took the thirty pieces of silver, I had more power related problems caused by APC UPS's than any other issue. Other IT staff didn't seem to comprehend that the lead acid batteries that APC used only had a working life of about three years. After that, they'd try to switch over at the slightest supply dip, fail and crash the site's servers and switches. In most cases the equipment would ride out hiccoughs that the UPS's failed on. It was also more than awkward to replace the batteries on UPS's when said batteries had swelled to the point that one had to saw the chassis apart to get them out. 😮
Hopefully, these days, they've moved over to lithium batteries and far higher quality battery management.
