Is it possibility too keep system offline without connecting it to Internet? I want to keep all my home information locally and don't won't to send anything outside of my property. Can you simple turn off access to your WiFi dongle without loose ability to connect phone app to your inverter? Regards

HipHopAst No. Phone app and web portal use the Givenergy cloud for data and control. This relies on the inverter dongle being able to communicate with the cloud.

You could block internet traffic to and from your inverter dongle using your router, and set up home automation with GivTCP to control the inverter locally. You would have to open up comms from dongle to cloud to allow any firmware updates or remote support.

HipHopAst AFAIK you need internet connection for warranty purposes

HipHopAst As far as I know the Inverter/dongle does not call out but responds to requests from the GE servers. Of course, it's responses are out bound but nevertheless not unsolicited. If you have a decent router you can add rules which will make sure it ONLY responds to external requests from the GE servers and nothing else. Likewise you can specify rules which allow specific devices within your network to interact with the inverter (i.e. for local monitoring, or givTCP).

I have the Inverter on it's very own ssid & subnet which makes it easy to isolate it from everything and then open up specific ports as necessary.

I also have all my other smart devices on another subnet which is totally isolated from the internet as there's way too many examples of smart device security being sloppy.

this is in my Inverter warranty document, under the transfer section but does stipulate the current owner must maintain an internet connection

To keep your warrant you must essentially leave a device connected. Lovely

kram yep, and although GE are a UK company, their parent company isn't, so your data goes over there too

That’s going to be a whole pile of interesting conversations for a whole pile of people. For one if there is anyway to identify the user from the data sent outside of Europe then it’s probably a GDPR breach. Pairing the data with useage will tell people when you’re in for example.

Not so much in my case. i have appliances linked to alexa and start them when PV is good and away from home.

Cdent Would be nice if they actually provided a decent wireless device with their equipment, I got a sky box twice as far as the inverter on near full strength but my system has been saying offline for over 8 hours today.

Connection to the gateway is rock solid, that never has an issue.
