Building Control Compliant?

Hello,

I’m looking for some advice. We are looking to install our GivEnergy 9.5 battery indoors in a large cupboard. We have been advised that this may not pass building control when our new build is complete. It’s Highland Council in Scotland we stay in. Does anyone have any advice or documentation that states a battery system indoors is sufficient to pass building control/building regulations?

You’d have tobb me ask building bc control.
If you’re not sure and your installer can s warning against it I’d find another site.

Stephen11 was there a reason given? Which part of the building regs might be an issue? The area would need to be suitably ventilated to keep the equipment cool, but that could be achieved with, say, an internal louvre door to maintain the air leakage figure. I suspect it's an excuse from a housebuilder to avoid doing some work they're not interested in, but I might be wrong.

Building Regulations should be available to view on line.
AFAIAA there is nothing about inverters/batteries in Regs.
Boilers are covered because of gas issues.
Gas meters are covered because of gas issues.
Inverter and battery should be considered like electrical appliances.
You should ventilate the battery to keep it cool (will a perform better)
You might want to consider a smoke detector above - Mine is in loft and I want to know if it starts smoking!

5.7.1 applies to pretty much everything, bins, bicycles etc
5.7.2 is the main point, but I think a battery in a decent enclosure or cupboard would meet this. Note the use of the word protected escape route as opposed to escape route
