Hi,

Just curious. How will the upcoming EMS function?

What does it do exactly and how?

I know it is supposed to eliminate cross charging but how will it do this? For example;

1) Will it be able to sense the true house load and distribute charge/ discharge evenly to/ from the respective batteries on both inverters or will it pause an inverter/ battery (or a pair on an inverter) to achieve this?
2) Will it prioritise exactly balancing the battery pairs on both inverters? Or would it have a small tolerance when one inverter is getting more Solar?
3) would it discharge from one set to the other set to even them out or not?
4) would it effectively tie the inverters together?

what is/ will be the spec?

If this has been answered before could you point me in the right direction with a link?

Thanks for any heads up.

Nobody knows. If it is in Beta testing then it's some very tight lipped people.
I'm sure somewhere I read that the AIO gateway would be able to do it at somepoint which would suggest it may have a similar circuit board inside as the gateway (minus the need for the grid relays?)
Given that the gateway could provide a true load as it sits in front of all the other loads it kind of makes sense - it then dishes out the orders / data to the inverters. Other than cross charging and dubious portal data I don't think there is a need for much more coordination than that hence:

They are trialling an online/cloud version to sort cross charging out - relying on Givenergys servers to provide a virtual EMS.
Probably doesn't help much with bogus portal data but should sort the key issues of plant cross charging out.
