Why would my battery drop to 16% overnight….when the house is asleep…?

Sounds like the system has performed a downward displayed SOC% realignment. For some (as yet unknown) reason when realigning downwards (or upwards) the adjustment stops at the "magic" figure of 16%. Don't be surprised if the next time your battery approaches full you see a sudden jump of the displayed SOC to 100%. This will be the system correcting the error introduced by the previous downward "correction".

Where as in my case yesterday evening the battery physically fell off the wall!

Woodstock My setup AC30 2x 5.2 was reasonably stable on 3012 FW, but does exactly what you describe on 3013 FW. This morning for example one battery dropped from 42% to 16% and the other from 52% to 16%. i.e. 1/3rd of my capacity vanished in 5 minutes.

The BETA chat seems to have left the reservation; is there something going on??

hhall Wish I knew. I have raised this issue many times on beta chat and the silence has been deafening!

Surely that is exactly what the new bms should do, that is a larger drop than I have seen but it has now measured the true capacity and reported it. Did that drop happen at a time which would suggest the bms algorithm could run? (below a certain level of drain or paused)

Charged from grid during off-peak:
main SoC charged to 69% (80% selected) and then jumped to 87%.
Primary Bat charged to 68% and then jumped to 100%
Secondary Bat charged to 70% and then started to supply the house load although it still had another hour of grid charging to go and 10% short of target.

Seems to me that I have a 3KWH hole in my batteries capacity after updating to 3013 FW. On the way down when the main SoC gets to around 50% it drops to 16% and continues down to 6%. On the way up when the main SoC gets to around 70% it jumps to 87% (PBat 100% and SBat 70%)

positor1 It is indeed supposed to realign the displayed and actual SOC%. What it is not supposed to do is massively over correct the difference so that they end up further apart than before the "realignment" took place! Been reporting this since mid June without acknowledgement. Beta testing communication channels no longer seem to exist.
