System installed on 17th July and Just had a BMS overvoltage notification (at 57.27v) which then cleared itself five mins later but it happened again five mins after that and has not cleared yet after two hours but is in mid 50v with a couple of peaks at 58v, battery on 0% discharging 24w we are on firmware 3013
Any ideas?

I have only had a BMS over voltage a couple of times but it did take a while to update a "clear" message, everything was working OK and it's just the BMS doing its job protecting the battery.

clavid I have been going through the BMS over voltage scenario sine late July following updating to 3013. Having had one recalibration that seemingly made no difference, Givenergy were about to do another recalibration but there was a DMS coms failure which stopped this going ahead. However, the aim was to control the rate of charge, to what level I don’t know, but the intention is to reduce the stress on the cells while charging. This wasn’t particularly well explained, but I’m concluding, that the 100% SOC by doing this would be a different level of charge (I presume lower) than if the change were done at the highest power, in my case 3600W.
I’m also concluding that the BMS coms fail is connected to the high voltage and DMS over voltage which leads to the battery doing a self protection shut down where the SOC drops instantly to 0% and starts slowly bleeding off power, and if you are lucky, restoring itself.
As an emergency measure I started dumping power from the 9.5 battery, I don’t need that much storage, 50% will easily get me through the night, then also keeping an eye on the SOC during a sunny day and dumping more if it is getting close to 90%. Being aware that if the solar generation is also very high the capacity to dump is reduced. So some reduction on the solar charge rate may be a good idea. I came out of these emergency measures as GivEnergy had the above plan and wanted me to be back up to 100% SOC to commence the recalibration.
So now my battery is permanently in protection mode, bleeding power and I’m waiting for approval of an engineer to do a site visit.

Same here. New install end of June.

2/4 batteries been at 0% for a week or so now.

They made my installer come out twice, saying on the phone that my installer should change the BMS and manually try to charge one of the batteries ! Installer says they can’t do that and shouldn’t be asked to either.

I Finally got a message from support yesterday saying an engineer will come out in 3-5 weeks and they will contact me !

They haven’t contacted me yet.

I’m also left with a pair of identical batteries that have a 25% split on the SOC, meaning I can only use one down to 29% (as when the other one reaches 4% it stops BOTH discharging.) Similar for at the top end; 25% split and Charging drops off a cliff to 500w or so when one reaches 100%. Dumping the majority to the grid and not charging the low battery.

I’ve paid a massive amount for 38kW of battery storage and inverter(s) system and I can only use 6.75kW in each of only two of the four. Really really angry.

This really isn’t acceptable. Is there a quality issue or what the heck’s going on?

I’ve asked about the different charging rate problems but it always gets ignored. No reply. No answer.

Pete UK If you want a response from Givenergy you need to phone them directly and not rely on this forum.

clavid I do not really know why it happens. I can only say that when it did was when I was having issues with the grid voltage being (i.e. exceeding 253v) with 100% battery and solar producing.

Since getting the grid voltage sorted out with the DNO I have not had these issues. But this could be just a coincidence as it wasn't happening all the time.

I'm in the same boat with my master battery frozen due to overvoltage. Waiting for an engineer 3-5 weeks that, but hoping it will reset itself at some point.

When I looked at the battery data is showed that the voltage was slowly increasing together with the batteries soc, but upon reaching 100% it voltage was still climbing rather than tapering off. I've set maximum soc of 98% now just wait and see when the battery is recovered, if this prevents from an overvoltage.

which appears much better than your adventures but as this all happened on a Friday I decided that I would post here in the first instance to find out about the issue from others before contacting my installer/Givenergy next week, my concern is if its the 3013 update being the issue.

I suffer from this overvoltage shutdown, I had this before the 3013 update so its not that, had the system four-ish months, 5.2 hybride gen 2 with 2 x 9.5 batteries, first time the installer had to come back and disconnect the BMS to get the system to come back this was on the 3012, and since the 3013 update, I have managed to get the batteries back using the soft reset on the RHS. But its not good, owned 4 month had five shutdowns, and given the poor solar in July when we didn't make full charge most days. its not a great start. My installer is in contact with GE to try and sort it. But so far nothing. At least this only crops up when we get a really good solar day, so on those days , I just load up some home use, but ts not ideal, as that reduces the available income.

Well two of by batteries haven’t recovered and are effectively “bricked”. The other two’s behaviour is preventing me using the full range of the storage.

Today the primary battery that went down to 4% has charged up to 49% so far (+45%) and the other one that went down to 29% has charged up to 44% (+15%).

+15% vs +45% !!!

So the primary is charging and discharging at 3x the rate of the secondary !

This can only be some sort of major issue.

Now it’s +50% vs + 16%
