Best Holiday Mode

The house will be empty for the next few days and the weather forecast looks as if there’ll be enough sun to cover the base load and keep the battery topped up. What’s the best setting to ensure zero import from grid 24/7 please?

ChrisRowe Ours are set to Eco all the time and grid import is usually less than 1kWh per day and that’s just the noise on the system caused by the system responding to changes is house load

I would just set eco mode and leave everything else off.

I was pondering this same issue recently. I will be leaving mine in eco mode but if the weather is fair I may set a discharge period as well. I’m not on agile so no real financial incentive on this one, I just thought it might help do my bit to increase renewable electricity in the grid. I know it’s such a minuscule amount that the different is negligible but with everything going on globally, I feel like it’s a contribution worth making. I could set my battery to discharge during the peak usage times down to 40% or so, allowing the battery to easily cover the house load until the next day when the sun rises again.

Depending upon your location, they are turning off windmills to give priority to gas and imported electricity.
I personally would just leave it in mode 1. I tried to do what your wanting last year. Some of the bugs in the system ended up flattening my battery and cost me to import what i gifted to the network.
one house off the grid is still a benefit.

hamilton we are in the north west of England. Hadn’t realised that about turning off wind turbines in favour of gas and imported electricity. That just seems totally crazy to me! Interesting point about one house off grid making a difference, I hadn’t thought about it from that perspective.

GrahamRead if I recall the news article it was something to do with the power they generate would not reach the area's that need it? Something like that anyway. It was in the news a lot December time.

It's mainly down to lack of transfer capacity between Scotland & England. Tops out about 6.1GW across the Harker Substation. (Although you also have the Western HVDC Link as well)

I’ve been searching the site to find out exactly what Eco mode does, but can’t find any reference. Can someone explain it to me please!

ChrisRowe Eco Mode enables the battery to work dynamically. It will automatically charge from excess solar and automatically discharge to cover your home demand if your not quite generating enough power. The battery will charge and discharge throughout the day to minimise Grid import. If the battery is full, the excess solar can either be diverted to a 3rd party product such as an eddi or zappi or can be exported back out to the grid.

The battery seems to be topping up nicely in todays sunny weather, charged yesterday eve to 70% (mains). Dropped to 40% this morning and back to 83% now. Just turned off timed charge and looking at the forecast might not need it for a few days 😃

Danlambert (GivEnergy) Is there a timescale for more options, such as timed delay and min export rate? This would help with other systems to allow priorities between systems as sometime my Givenergy exports in to V2H battery.

c_squared The correct term for when the intentionally turn off renewable sources is "curtailment". A good overview is here but if you Goggle "renewable curtailment", you'll get plenty of detail. And yes, it's bonkers.
