Got an email tonight saying I will be getting 15p for export on Intelligent. This is good news as that was what they were doing from the end of April until they spotted it and changed it to the usual 4.1p for the last couple of months. Apparently it is from the end of the week.
Octopus paying 15p on Intelligent for export!
Yep...it looks like a great offer for those of us on IO.
I am right in thinking that this 15p export rate is also going to apply to Octopus Go customers?

anthonypar No, it’s not. Only for IO customers
Correct. Go is not an Intelligent tariff, so this doesn't apply. If you have a compatible car or charger, then there really isn't a very strong argument to stay on Go.
would the smart tariff card work with IO on givenergy portal?
Go was always a beta tariff. They don't offer anything more than the bare minimum export rate for the the experimental import rates. Pretty sure OI is the off the shelf follow up to Go and it won't be long before they stop offering Go or swap it out for a different product that can serve as an economy 7 alternative.
It works insofar as it shows the normal peak/off-peak rates. It doesn't reflect when Kraken offers off-peak charging rates in peak times. As such, it's pretty basic.
Hi folks. I got this email too. Can I ask what might be a daft question? I’m still a newbie.
Should I import/charge my battery to 100% during the IO off peak (7.5p/kw) and then let all excess from solar generation export back to the grid for 15p/kw?
Seems like they wouldn’t want me buying it for half the price I’m selling it back to them.
Cheers
James
Unfortunately our installer used Flexi-Orb rather than MCS certification and Octopus won’t accept this, so currently can’t sign up and will have to continue our long wait for ScottishPower to set up our payments.
Incidentally I just discovered our installed has gone into administration, so hopefully Givenergy will be able to help should anything got wrong….

Purk
on the face of it that is correct and to a point is what they want to happen to level out demand and supply.
the truth is though there are losses to take into account, you will not be making what it looks like you will.
Some news ...
_Good news: we’re doubling your export rate from 4.1p / kWh to 8p / kWh.
The average household exporting 1,700kWh to the grid will earn around £66 more a year.
In the next week, we’ll automatically upgrade your export tariff from Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) to our new Outgoing Octopus Fixed Lite tariff. It has the same terms as Outgoing Octopus Fixed, but with an export rate of 8p / kWh._
This is a game changer. No need to worry about surplus solar and where it’s going, just juice storage to 100% off-peak and let the batteries deal with the house in peak time. Maybe even set an hour of discharge at max rate during the evening peak too.
Looks like my Eddi isn’t paying back and the solar capability of the Zappi is superfluous. For 12 months, anyway…
Slartibartfast I got this as well.
Now the question is do I stay on GO or switch to Intelligent!
If you have a compatible car or charger then there really is no reason not to switch to Intelligent. The same rates but with a 6 hour off-peak period AND a 15p per kWh export rate (and the ability to go onto Outgoing Agile and potentially much higher export rates).
Zakalwe I have an EV (Kia, which has a questionable compatibility with IO) and Hypervolt, which I think is compatible (but haven't checked).
So, the Kia is really the biggie...
rio911 Apprently go rates have been increased today, just trying to find a source. But if you can go onto intelegent I would
8p/kWh up from 4.1p/kWh
Link here:
https://octopus.energy/help-and-faqs/articles/can-i-still-export-my-energy-if-i-m-on-an-ev-tariff/
BUT cannot sign up online if you are on go as the link through still, currently, precludes you from signing up as "you are ineligible due to being on Octopus Go" lol
dragon2905 will be like the first few days of intelegent I imagine where the customer service staff aren't told about it to 😂

dcsh octopus recently changed acceptance criteria and now do not require MCS but you still need G98/99 and a valid EV or charger to sign up to intelligent. I think they dropped MCS within the last week or two, AFAIK.
Jase1703 that’s not what I was told yesterday, having applied on Monday. They said they are running a limited trial for those without an MCS which I’ve registered for, but still annoying as our Flexi-orb certificate was meant to be equivalent and is accepted by other energy companies.
Just an update tried several times today to sign up for "Outgoing Fixed Lite" over the telephone.
Got cut off 2 times, third time round spoke to someone who told me the previous person had initiated a complaint that the tariff was not available for customer to sign up for.
Sadly her advice was, its not currently available but should be in the next week or so. Simply try every day to sign up.........
I have to say my experience with Octopus does not live upto their hype.
Social media is full of Octopus fan boys abd gurls, who appear to worship the ground Sir Greg walks on.
But, the bread and butter aspects of their business, selling and billing for electricity imho, falls a long way short.
Even bas8cs like them tell8ng me exactly what my E7 hours are eluded them. They were unable, or unwilling to put it in writing !
Their staff are nice, but do not have access to basic information or perhaps need more training.
I think they're limited in some ways based on what the government decide to do. Like green electric should be cheaper, we shouldn't price all electric on the most expensive way of generating it
Plus customer service seems to have suffered recently which I suspect is growing pains. Taking on all those extra customers from failed Energy suppliers and their staff who need training in the octopus ways (or managing out the business if they are not good enough for Octopus CS as was).
dragon2905 Tried to get Outgoing Fixed without MCS, reply was:
Hello Peter,
Thank you for reaching out to us. I understand that you installed the equipment yourself as a qualified electrician and are not MCS registered. I apologize for any confusion caused by our terms and conditions.
Unfortunately, at the moment, we can only accept export systems that are MCS certified. This is a requirement for our processes. If you do not have an MCS certificate, we would be unable to proceed with the switch.
If you have any further questions or need assistance, please let me know.
Kindest Regards,
That's not correct. Octopus recently announced a change to this.
Can't find the Octopus article but someone should be able to link it....
Documented here
https://electrical-assistance.co.uk/octopus-energy-drops-mcs-requirement/
dragon2905 From the responses i've seen people posting from Octopus. It's a limited trial at the moment.
thewhalw21 yeah I did wonder if it hadn't been fully rolled out yet, or simply they haven't informed the call handlers.......
It would seem that part of the reason for adopting the change is due to the incoming Vehicle to Grid (bi-directional) charging as there is no mcs standard, no is it likely there will (or even could be) for this.
I always like going straight to the source, rather than relying on some unknown journalist's opinion for things like this.
I admire Octopus greatly, but they sometimes do not help themselves. From their own SEG FAQ page:
https://octopus.energy/smart/smart-export-guarantee/

From the Outgoing Octopus page: https://octopus.energy/blog/outgoing-faqs/

Righto, I've found it:
https://octopus.energy/policies/export-tariffs-terms-conditions/

So their FAQs don't say the same as their terms & conditions? Surely the T&Cs must take precedence and be correct?
psutherland71 I would assume so, yes.
Document management and information retention is one of those things that many businesses struggle to get a grip on as they grow. And Octopus have grown massively. Still, IMHO, they should be doing better in areas such as this.
Zakalwe Thanks for pointing out T&C clause 5.5, I have replied to Octopus pointing this out and hopefully they will accept my Flexi-orb certificate...
Apparently the change to the T&Cs is to allow for the limited trial to take place, it is not a change to accepting certification other than MCS at this time.
