Giv Energy Local dead after Home Assistant 2023.9.2 update

Just installed HA 9,2 and it seems to have killed Giv Energy Local.
Is this me and any idea how to fix/repair.
The GivEnergy integration says "failed to setup, will try again", but keeps doing that

Somehow GivEnergy local had lost inverter IP address and number of batteries.
Sorted!
Simples!!

ok, didnt have any impact, but HA updates are always a bit of a gamble.

My sensor.givtcp_sdXXXgXXX_import_power has gone missing and I can no longer get it

SteveCook Oh dear. Worth uninstalling and reinstalling GivTCP maybe? I’ve not upgraded to 2023.9.2 yet so will hang on to find its OK

Fixed it. All working now.
All my GivTCP stuff was dead.

I had given my GivEnergy dongle a fixed IP address on my router (as well as most other things), however the router had rebooted yesterday as i shut the power off for some wiring work and it seemed to have mixed up a load of fixed IPs.
It gave the HA IP to my smart TV and it gave some other random number to the inverter dongle.
When I figured this out, I had to reset the IP in the GivTCP config page.
Funnily GivLocal and my SolarEdge stuff was unaffected which is why it was not immediately obvious.

ah great, so the issues were unconnected to HA 2023.9.2. Just one of those weird coincidences that sends you down the rabbit hole of debugging and uninstalling

BTW, I’m using the google drive add on to securely take regular backups and save them to the cloud. Easy to setup and use if you haven’t tried it

Yes. My system error, not HA fault.
I have a NAS box at home, I will look to backup to that.

SteveCook I'm doing manual backups to NAS but haven't come across anything in HA to automate these on a scheduled yet; I'm sure there must be a way though.

It won’t do the backup to a NAS drive but you can automate it, the number of copies to keep, etc. and get alerts if the backup fails

I thought copying to a remote cloud was a more resilient option than a local copy (and TBH I have forgotten the password to my NAS drive its been so long since I used it!). Created a dedicated Google account for HA backups so I have 15Gb of storage

geoffreycoan The Google Drive add on can back up to a NAS. Add the SAMBA Share add on and configure it as the "normal" HA backup location. Once that's done, use the Google Drive backup to specify the number of backups to HA and the number to Google Drive. Ours is set to the latest backup to Google Drive but the last 5 scheduled backups on the NAS.

Tim Neat approach, use the Google Drive scheduling engine but keep most of the backups local on your NAS.
I’ve turned the ‘grandfather calendering’ or whatever its called setting on, to keep 7 daily copies, 3 weekly, 2 monthly, etc. Just in case I have an issue and don’t notice it for a while, I always have a backup I can go back to.
