HA & Givtcp in Docker, Palm set-up query?

Apologies in advance if i'm re-treading common knowledge, couldn't find anything that matched myself.

I have HA and GivTCP running ion docker happily. Got my Solcast free account and used the oziee solcast integration.
Now been re-searching how to set-up solar forecast automations.

Looks like Palm is a good option to get started with? Based on a couple of youtubes, I've seen I can add GE & solcast API info into my givtcp smarttarget config but i'm not clear what steps i need to follow after.

Does this negate doing the set-up's described on github, or do I still need to do that?

murrad yeah, palm is built into the GivTCP build, so you don't need to download anything separate.

Just go to the settings add-ons area of HA, into the GivTCP one, and onto the config page from there.

Enable smart target, enter the API keys etc for both solcast and GivEnergy and a few other things.

Save the config at the bottom of the page and GivTCP should restart.

Check the log on the same addon just before your off peak rate starts and you should see it calculating things.

ahh, checked the logs on my givtcp docker container and can see the following:
2023-09-18 13:17:50,581 - startup - [CRITICAL] - Setting daily charge target forecast job to run at: 01:50

will check the log tomorrow and see what has happened.

I’m just in the process of setting up batpred myself. Got the solcast forecasting running and will be playing with the forecast for a bit before I switch it on in anger. Yesterday being a dull day and my batteries didnt fully charge up has “encouraged” me to get on with this

yeah, i had already subscribed to speak to to the geek and watched that video. just wasn't clear where i could see the magic happening!

One other question, I can see it successfully set the charge target. Do i set the charge window myself and enable the charge schedule, or should it be doing this in the background as well?

Looking at the readme for GivTCP it only talks about palm calculating and setting the charge to %, so you’d need to set the time slot yourself (and if you ever do a manual charge to reset the slots afterwards). It doesn’t know about your tariff details (rates, times) unlike predbat.

murrad You put the same start & end times in both the GivEnergy portal and the local settings file. PALM needs them to do the prediction, but the version in GivTCP doesn't set them for you (the standalone version of PALM does).
