Inverter setting for winter

I had solar panels and a battery installed this summer and it's been working great, using next to no electricity from the grid.

Now as winter is approaching my battery is not recharging fully during the day. I have prepared for this by moving over to Intelligent Octopus for cheap energy between 23:30 and 05:30.

My question is, do I need to set my inverter to Timed Charge to charge the battery during this cheap period, does the Eco setting only work for getting best use from the solar panels. So in winter I set to Timed Charge and in Summer set to Eco?

Leave the ECO setting enabled and enable the Timed Charge. They play well together.
I think if you disable ECO then you won't use the battery to power your home unless you use one of the discharge settings.

During the Timed charged period any electricity you use will be imported regardless of the amount of electricity stored in your battery. So, depending on your usage and battery capacity and charge rate, you might not need or want to use the full 6 hour window.

This is what I'm currently doing too. Im on ECO mode and in batt settings on the App under "Battery charge mode" I have the following

Charge Mode = Solar + Grid
start = 00:30
end = 04:30
charge up to = 100%
charge power = 2611w (default)

I used to have charge up to set to like 25% when sunny as it was just to see me though till morning sun but now im going to just charge the whole batt to 100% for 45p

Not 100% correct. If your target level for the timed charge is lower than the level at the start of the charge, the system will use the battery power as per eco until it reaches said target. Then it will take form the grid. Of course your statement is true if target level is set to 100%.

Scotty I thought that one of the requirements to join the Intelligent Octopus tariff was to have an EV charger? It seems that in your case you just have a solar + battery system.

danielnepomuceno I do have an EV charger for the car but I currently don't use it to charge the car as my wife gets a cheaper deal at her work :-). You do need to connect the car to activate the Octopus tariff and although the whole process is clunky and painful (Octopus + BP + BMW apps all taking together is a challenge) but it now seems OK. I have yet to charge the battery at the cheaper rate but now I know how to set the system up I'm hoping for great things.
