Zappi + Battery

Battery is set to Eco. Car is plugged into Zappi, currently mopping up excess solar and is scheduled to charge from 20.30 tonight.
Will the Battery discharge to the car at 20.30?

Most likely yes. Depends on the settings on your zappi and GE battery and which inverter you have, AC or DC.

ChrisRowe Ok so your scheduled charge "boost charge" will still drain the battery. To avoid this set timed charge on your battery to the same charge time as your car and set a battery % you wish to keep in the battery. I only just learned all this myself :-)

That’s what I have been doing, but now the sun is shining the Battery can cope with supplying the house load 24 hours a day, I was hoping to a avoid a timed charge as that means drawing from the grid for 5 hours!
Never mind, it was worth a try!

ChrisRowe set you battery discharge rate to 0% and your all set.
Inverter will supply the house and the Zappi will get the excess. Battery will stay at whatever it was.

Can you set a timed charge but only to a certain a percentage of the battery capacity?

Or set the charging rate to something low so it only charges slowly and thus never gets to 100% full in the five hours?

TX200 Yes, I can do that, but then the house will draw from the Grid for the timed charge period, which I was aiming to avoid.

ChrisRowe We leave the Inverters in Eco mode and the Zappi in ECO+ mode with 100% MGL, start to charge when export is greater than 1.4kW for at least 30 seconds and minimum export of 50W. You do need a CT on your DNO meter tails for this to work but it works for us. The house batteries charge up first thing and it's only after they are 100% charged does to Zappi see the export and start to charge the car. We don't drive very far from home and can last a week or more without having to charge the car but use these settings for days like to day where there's plenty of sunshine and that house batteries were at 100% by lunchtime. Unfortunately the car has been at work all day but will be at home tomorrow when it's expected to be just as sunny.

If you want zappi from the grid and the house from the battery, then all I guess change the discharge rate, perhaps to roughly what you think the house will use.

Think I got confused there. There already is a CT on the DNO meter tails but we also fitted one onto the solar system to house consumer unit feed so it shows on the Zappi app.

TX200 it’s what I run my chargers at (as I’m on intelligent tariff it’s the only way as it’s all a bit random when it’s going charge) so I set discharge to 0% whenever the charger runs.
You can as you’ve suggest pick say 10% discharge or whatever to blend todays stored PV into the mix.
Similarly the other way - if during the day you want more to the Zappi then set the charge rate lower. On good days you’ll still fill the battery anyway, just spreads the energy out.

Thanks for all the ideas. I was hoping for less manual intervention, if I change the discharge rate while the car charges, I then have to remember to change it back again, and the car doesn’t finish charging until 01.30!
The cost saving is only a few pence, I think I’ll stick with a timed charge on the battery to match the car times, and set a low battery percentage depending on the weather forecast.

ChrisRowe yes it can be a bit of a pain. I ended up automating it.
