Switching to Octopus

Signed up with Octopus yesterday, should be done by tomorrow. Will be on their standard tariff to begin with at around 28p/kwh for electric and 6p/kwh for gas. Once they've got a connection to the meters sorted, we can switch to one of the better ones. Was thinking of the flux one. With cheaper electric for 4hrs overnight (9.5p/kwh), I can charge the battery, use that from 4:30am to power the house and morning. Any sunshine can keep it topped up or send back to the grid (20p/kwh on SEG) or if not enough sun, recharge the battery before 4pm to cover the house from the 41p/kwh rate between 4-7pm. Rest of the day is 31p/kwh

If I can get that battery topped up at 9.5p/kwh and then send more back to the grid @ 20p/kwh. I could end up better off. all it would take a decent sunny day and we get a fair few of those up here as near to coast and mountains that help funnel weather systems... it's either glorious sunshine or total cloud cover normally.

Did the sums from the data gathered over almost 9 months, and we're down for about 2000kwh of electric for the year. Imported 1243kwh so far this year. Generated 3502kwh so far, used 2465kwh directly on the house/battery.

Out credit with Eon as of this morning... not counting the final bill (estimated to be around £45) was £1493)

Monthly DD with Octopus is being set at £125, but we'll drop that huge credit back on the account and get our monthly bills down to around £70-80 for the next 12 months. Thankfully as my mum came to live with me last year, she gets the winter fuel payments, which last year was £500 and I believe is £500 again this year. I'm also disabled and get a little help with things like the warm home discount.

With that assistance and the fact we were on a fixed rate deal until tomorrow (16p/kwh electric 23p/sc & 3p/kwh gas 27p/sc). We've been protected from the energy crisis... not the same with car fuel though which has risen 24p/lt in the last 6-8 weeks and is back up almost as high as it was 18 months ago.... wow... thanks oil cartels and ineffective UK govts with their hands in the till and PM's ties to the oil industry earning him millions for destroying the planet.

Flux only has 3hrs of cheap import at night and it's not 9.5p

Anomnomnomaly There are two different tarrifs, Flux and Intelligent Flux. IF you hand control of your battery over to Octopus and they will manage charging and discharging.

Flux you maintain control yourself and operates as you suggested. Rates are dropping on the weekend though so the export isn’t as profitable as it was

I don't think flux was ever 9.5 p. It has always been 3 hrs and at 18 p since inception.

Flux has always been around 20p in and out.
Intelligent was around that but you have to have an EV.
For battery owners you can choose the following:
Standard rate 24/7
Economy 7 (lots of people jump to this for winter)
Agile
Flux - really not the best for winter but not horrific
Intelligent flux - like flux but worse over winter unless you plan to export lots. Brilliant summer tariff launched in the autumn.

If you have an EV:
Go - 4 hours cheap rate at a fixed time
Intelligent - around 6 hours daily but some report 12 hour+ when electricity is green.

The whole experience of attempting to use their website has been dreadful.

The website is simply broken and doesn't work in brave or firefox. Endlessly failing to load and erroring out telling you 'it happens' log out and log back in again in an endless cycle... and the first person who says' try chrome, edge or anything along those lines' will be told where to shove it. There's a reason NO ONE should ever be using those browsers for anything at all. 🙂

Sometimes I get my account page to load... but trying to submit meter readings fails to load every single time.

They seem like a complete joke and I'm regretting ever switching to them.

But I am at least still in the 14day cooling off period... I suspect if things haven't improved in the next few days... I'll be switching again. Eon may be utterly incompetent, but at least their fucking website worked.

Octopus website works fine with FF (current version is v118.0.1) and has done basically forever. It even works with NoScript running....

Edit - it doesn't work with Firefox Focus but then again nor does half the internet 🙂
