Hi,
I'm confused with how the above setting should work. In my experience, if I set the above, which the text states "This mode will discharge your batteries to your home during a period you define" with times of Start 04:30 and end 01:30, my assumption is that the battery will discharge to my home to meet demand the times above, so holding charge between 01:30 am and 04:30 am.
However, if I set the above, the 'Eco' charge setting is disabled and the battery stops charging from my solar panels.
Am i misinterpreting something here ?

Dean I raised this with customer service. Eco should be an always on feature unless something else is scheduled for a specific time that supersedes it.

I didn't know that timed discharge didn't charge the battery though. They told me to use timed discharge to counteract the timed export that I had set (because nothing was happening at other times outside timed export), so it sounds like the battery would be outputting only if I did that, not very useful. Anyway, when I tried to set timed discharge it would turn off timed export automatically, so they can't work side by side!

It sounds like they are hoping to improve these settings though, so we'll just have to wait a little longer.

Just tried again and I find this a bit ridiculous. So I enabled 'Timed Discharge "This mode will discharge your batteries to your home during a period you define "
Ensured 'ECO' ,mode is still enabled, it was.

Result was that the battery would charge as per my 'Timed Charge' setting, but when it came to charging from solar panels.. just exported to the grid and would not charge the battery.
So I disabled 'Timed Discharge'. Then noticed by doing that it disabled 'ECO' so the battery became 'Idle'

To me, this is clearly poorly described 'Timed Discharge' and the functionality not working as a user may expect

Huntzie when did you raise your issue with them ?

Have you raised a feedback ticket for this? To raise awareness with GE tech support

Dean Probably a week ago or so, it didn't sound like it was a bug, but as it was intended to function. But I was told they were working on improving this to give us more control.

I have just logged this under a bug report. To me it seems very strange that enabling 'Timed Discharge' would prevent charging from solar

Well.. I submitted the issue:
Timed discharge
You submitted this on 2022-03-22 19:12:38

As of today there is no response whatsoever !!

I am new to this, my battery was installed a month ago and have also encountered this issue with Timed Discharge.

Timed discharge was set from 0530 to 2330 to use the battery during peak time and the grid in off-peak time. Eco mode was also set to charge the battery from the solar panels. The timed discharge had no effect and the battery discharged throughout the off-peak period. Not what I had intended.

I will also submit this as an issue. Maybe there is strength in numbers!

Thanks Michael. I posted a comment on my issue stating that no response in 5 months is unacceptable. I'll post back if I get a response.

MichaelLind Just put it in ECO mode and leave it there.

Setting a Timed Discharge for all peak hours will discharge the battery for all of that time. The system wont recharge the battery because you have told it to discharge it!

If you leave it in Eco mode then it will power your house load and use any excess PV generation to charge your battery during the day.

MichaelLind I believe that setting a timed discharge or timed export overrides the eco mode, so you have to change settings daily.

As Zakalwe says, just enabling Eco mode will charge when there is enough solar and discharge when there isn't.

My system has been left in Eco mode since mid March, and has only imported energy on about 10 days when there wasn't quite enough solar to sufficiently charge the battery to last overnight.

ECO mode is understandable and works as interpreted through the text used. I have had my system in ECO mode over the summer and this has powered my house without any grid intervention.

The text used for Timed discharge however is not working as interpreted. Through reading the text I expect the battery to 'Discharge to my home' during the 'Start' and 'End' periods I set, no charging. So if I set a start time of 04:00 and end time of 02:00, then during daytime hours the battery should discharge to my home and recharge as required. Then during the times 02:00 to 04:00 the battery would not discharge and the house load would draw from the grid. Making best use of cheap overnight power as required during winter months.

If this is not how this function works, what is it supposed to be used for and how does it work ?

The workaround I have found is to use 'Timed Charge' for the entire duration of cheap overnight power and set the charge limit scale accordingly. So during this period the battery charges to the required level and for the remainder of the time the house load is drawn from the grid.

Dean I think the problem might be a bug with the times, it might not like 4am to 2am. I’m sure I’ve read it’s generally better to have the finish time later than the start time (e.g. it likes time differences but not over two days).

Zakalwe Thanks for your reply. ECO mode works just great during peak hours.

I can see my sledge hammer approach to cracking the nut of setting a timed discharge will simply prevent the battery charging during the peak period. However my desire is NOT to discharge the battery during off-peak and save the power for use during the next peak period. Sound economic sense in my view. How is this achieved without using the timed charge feature?

Dean Looks like we are both trying to achieve the same outcome: not discharging the battery during off-peak hours.

I have also discovered the time charge workaround but it is a bit Heath Robinson.

MichaelLind

Whats the issue with using Timed Charge?

Zakalwe it doesn't work. Use charge timer.

Works for me to stop the EV charger from draining the battery.
