Batteries Charged to 200%

The sofware seems to have decided my two batteries are seperate. It's started showing the battery percentages added together (see pic) and I've seen one of the batteries charging from the other.

Has anyone else seen this?

Also, what is the correct proceedure for re-booting the batteries and inverters. Do I need to isolate the DC, or switch things off and on again in a particular order?

I would contact the installer of them. That seems very strange.

I think it’s in the installers manual:

  • isolate PV
  • throw the breaker for the battery
  • turn off the battery (press and hold black button)
  • turn off AC power going to the inverter
  • turn off inverter (switch underneath)

Turning back on is the reverse of this

geoffreycoan Never isolate the PV first as it could be under load and potentially pop go your PV panels.

The actual shutdown sequence according to GE is -

1) Turn the battery off using the button on the side;
2) Turn the battery isolator switch off;
3) Turn the AC isolator switch off;
4) Turn the PV isolator/isolators switch off.

Turning the switch off at the bottom of the inverter is only necessary if you are opening the inverter - its a safety feature to isolate all DC inside the inverter in case someone inadvertantly turns on the PV isolator switch.

And if you're really paranoid, before you start the above, set the battery charge and discharge rates to 0W in the portal. 😁

Actually this makes me wonder how many of you actually have the (required) warning labels on the inverter regarding not isolating PV DC before you isolate the mains AC?

We have them on the inverter, on the PV connectors at the bottom of the inverter and on the PV isolator switches.

IIRC our installers said it was a MCS requirement rather than GivEnergy installer requirement for the labels (likewise all the warning labels regarding live DC during daylight etc). Also said its unlikely you'd damage the PV panels if it was a one-off but if they do go pop then sometimes they catch fire, even if very briefly.

Vestas my GE inverter is an AC connected one, so I don't need to worry about the order. πŸ˜€

Vestas I do have labels on the inverter advising to turn off the ac before the pv if the pv is under load. But different labels elsewhere
