Has the forced discharge problem been fixed yet? Or should I just give up and go for the 15p export?

I have HA working to get over the problem with Eco not kicking back in, but have just gone Eco7 and 15p export over the winter.

Not sure what you want to achieve, but if the intent is to charge battery during day and send to grid during higher export rate period (e.g. 4-7PM for Octopus Grid in certain regions) then your settings on the GE portal (if that's what you want to use to automate) should be:

  • ECO : enabled
  • timed charge: enabled in early morning during the cheap import time range IF you need that (and you can limit upto what %-age you want to charge)
  • timed discharge: enabled anywhere from 16:00-19:00pm as suits you.

Do NOT use forced discharge as you can't combine that with ECO and do not read the GE explanations on the portal as the provide you very confusing info. I learned the hard way.

I'm exporting daily to Octopus Flux at 28.33p/kWh

I have now set it up again. When I tried before I thought I could export to a set battery percentage. This now looks as though it's not an option. Are you sure it's discharge and not export?

Hi - yes it is "timed discharge" do NOT use "timed export". I know it is completely counterintuitive and the description that comes with "timed discharge" on the portal is making the confusion even worse...
However if you want to combine ECO (charging battery during day, exporting to grid when battery is full any period other than the period you defined under "timed discharge" ), then the only way to do that is with the settings as in the bulleted list in my post a bit higher up.
I've been trying out every single permutation of settings for a month now and been in contact with GE extensively and I can confirm this is the only way to make it work using GE's portal if you don't use HA or GivTCP or some other fancy programming of the inverter/battery, until GE comes up with a better set of tools/definitions on the portal which they are working on. I can only guess how long it will take before that becomes available on the portal.
Below is an example of what that setting does for me. You can clearly see the topping up at 4:45am to 10% and the dump from 4:50pm to 7pm. To export to a "said battery percentage", I calculated how much time I need to get to roughly 12%, for me that's about 2h10min from a full battery. I set start and end time for timed discharge accordingly. I asked GE to consider to actually have such "said battery percentage" - timed discharge until x% is left... Let's see whether they implement that.

JMA I am finding the Inverter does NOT re-engage Eco mode after a timed discharge. ie I discharge 16-1700hrs, and then the battery stays at a constant charge and ALL energy comes in via grid, ie we purchase. Any thoughts?

I have looked at the bullet points, AND diligently set them (albeit non-optimised values) to see if the combination is successful. Thank you for your perseverance with GE, and for taking the time to share so clearly.

Not sure that is available in all systems yet, if not, it is coming.

I have a Gen1 Hy5.0 and 9.5kWhr battery.
Like you I used the same settings and a similar discharge time estimate to get to a % remaining in the battery.
That all worked great for a few months until I installed 3013 software and then I could never get Eco to kick back in.
I went to HA!

I don't know the details of your system obviously. This could be related to the battery firmware and/or the inverter. Are you on 3013 or 3012 ?

I am on 3013 now, but have moved to Home Assistant for my automations.
DO450-AO451for inverter
I am going to add another battery but GivEnergy say to go back to 3012

You should definitively move back to 3012. I could not get it work with 3013. 3013 is not ready.

JMA yeah. I'm on 3013 and it still doesn't work. I couldn't get it working on 3012 either.

Very straightforward. GivEnergy very helpful.
Most difficult part was the red glue on the USB!

Does anybody have and views on whether all of these timed discharges will over time degrade the battery more quickly?

Bluebeef GivEnergy have gone on record saying recently that no there isn’t, the batteries are designed with spare internal capacity to cover future degradation (eg a 9.5 is more like 13 internally) and they designed to be used. The newer batteries have no cycle limit on warranty either
