Hello,
I have recently moved over to the Octopus Energy Flux Tariff, but on the app it asks you to connect to my batteries.

When I click on connect it asks me to sign into my GivEnergy Account so it can access my batteries, but which I log in all I get is an error message saying something has gone wrong.

So does anyone know how to connect to your batteries, it is so frustrating.

It says you are on Intelligent not Flux so it requires the device to be a car not a battery unless something has changed recently

Some people's systems seem to struggle with the onboarding for some reason.
Do you have 2FA enabled as I know that causes problems.
I know they are having a hard time at the moment with a lot of people trying to join their smart tariffs so the Octopus Smart tariff team may be able to assist:

As noted, you are currently on Intelligent Go. Do you currently have a car registered with the system. I read on another forum someone having the same difficultly, and the solution was to first detach all managed devices from Intelligent Go, and then it may allow you to switch over to Intelligent Flux.

#5 hoggy

DD it says intelligent GO regardless. I've been on Intelligent Flux for a couple of month and it says the same in the app.
On the Web portal it is however correct (as are the bills more importantly)

If the app can't even get the tariff right, perhaps no point trying to use it to configure things ;-) But it might just be a minor display bug in the app - I assume you've checked for a newer release.

I was under the impression that you couldn't actually switch to an Intelligent tariff until they had successfully made contact with the managed device. So it's quite interesting that they have already put you onto Intelligent Flux without having first established contact with your battery system. (Can they even verify that you have a GE system?)

It’ll do a test charge just like the EV version does to confirm it has control.
You’ll also get a devices tab at the bottom of the app showing status if all is well:

I tried this transfer from Flux 2 days ago and had exactly the same experience.
I phoned Octopus yesterday and had to explain what Intelligent Flux was! CS assured me that I was now on the Intelligent Flux tariff and the Octopus app now shows this now for both export and import.
But I have experienced no changes to charge and discharge behaviour at all. I manually set these yesterday as I have done with Flux.
I also got the unhappy Octopus error message. I was also told that I was on Intelligent Go (as above).
I never saw the Givenergy progress screens that hoggy has uploaded. But I also never selected 'device' when I saw the info telling me that I was on Intelligent Go because I assumed this would take me to EVs.
I will try this now but could be another phone call to Octopus.
I also use the Octopus Watch app and that hasn't picked up Intelligent Flux from my API. So I don't think my API has been updated.

Hi
There seems to be an error when doing tariff change, as it will display T&C for Intelligent Go, but the rest worked ok for me.
I do not have 2FA also I did not had any automation setup prior.

Also it only seems to be available on the Iphone version of the App ( android one has not been released yet).

OK. I have just spent an hour on the phone with Octopus with a CS representative who didn't have a clue about what I was talking about. I kept requesting being transferred to the smart team but they would not do this. They ended up typing an email to smart team on my behalf!
CS have always been helpful to me but today was a waste of an hour.
I have now emailed the smart and agile teams and have sent copies of the screens that we see (Thanks to ChrisNash for supplying earlier in this thread)
As far as I can see, Octopus show me as on Intelligent Octopus Flux but Octopus don't yet have control of my battery. And with no data in my API, Octopus Watch app can't find the data.
On the Octopus app, my data for yesterday does show but this is from my manual charge and discharge.

A frustrated Rob

hoggy Quick off topic. On intelligent flux, if you do anything through GivTCP ( change charge rate for instance) does it all go wrong/octopus get upset and send you strongly worded emails ?

Wrong time of year to worry about it, but in summer I run an automation to reduce charge in th emorning so the battery has space to pick up the extra above 5kW I cant export/use at peak production. Would that cause grief ?
For me intelligent Flux looks like a brilliant tariff when you are a net exporter, not so good now.

#13 hoggy

justpassing Yes I imagine it would cause problems for the simple fact that GivTCP doesn't / can't push the changes you make locally back to the portal (& therefore the API that Octopus are monitoring over.)
I doubt you get any emails BUT the system does notice when you make changes on the portal not in keeping with it's own agenda (turn ECO on and it'll turn it off again)

However for your use case of limiting clipping it appears to take this into account - it already limits PV > Battery charging rather than letting it take everything early morning. Mine seems to like the 600W level, no idea why.
I've done a writeup of how it works here if that helps: https://terravolt.co.uk/api-integrations/givenergy/intelligent-flux/
(Has trends and graphs so you can see what it has been doing - I've not changed a setting on it since mid August so this is all it's own work)

hoggy do you have EPS circuits?

Wondering if EPS outputs during a power cut if the system was last in say Eco Paused or if Octopus had reduced the discharge rate to a low value.

I'm guessing EPS during a power cut would be exempt from any such settings? Hopefully?!

Guessing could change it via home assistant if need be.

#15 hoggy

TX200 I do have EPS capability yes (manual though) - I believe this is why it always leaves 20% in the battery as a minimum, it doesn't take it to the 4% value.
I'm not sure if the output is still limited when running EPS alone, I've never actually thought to try - you'd hope it defaults back to full power in firmware. Should I get time I'll find out.

No EPS and no automations set up. I do use givtcp in HA but just to monitor things such as SOC.
I sent a message through X/twitter and got a reply within 20 min. They are taking this up for me.
They also advised uninstalling completely the octopus app and then downloading app from Apple App Store (I am IOS). Then to start again but to leave the T&C screen for 15 min until accepting.
Octopus app shows yesterday charge and discharge stats. And when I discharge, Eco disables itself. I then have to re-enable. No 3rd party seems able to get my API. I do have Smart Tariff set up on web portal and this shows intelligent octopus. I am thinking about deleting and adding afresh as this could be corrupted?

hoggy Thanks really usefull reply :-). I am not sure why Inteligent has made such a bad impression ( at least on these forums) . Net exporter, I cant see that you can beat it. If you are a net importer, you might get a better deal.

justpassing Intelligent doesn't have the cheaper overnight slot that standard Flux has. But of course is more generous for export. I think the margin between overnight import and peak-rate export is very slightly better on standard Flux than on Intelligent Flux.

Obviously round-trip losses mean just charging overnight and exporting during the day isn't very going to give a huge return, but running high loads overnight (eg charging car / washing machine / dishwasher) then exporting the same power at peak rate might work out slightly better with Flux than Intelligent Flux.

Or If your panels are orientated such that they don't kick in until later in the day, then charging battery overnight on Flux rates to cover morning usage might work out cheaper than importing at Intelligent Flux day rate.

I wonder if Intelligent would work best for the peak production months (lots of excess export), standard Flux for the months when they're closer to balance, and something else (Eco 7 ?) for winter ? But the numbers will all have changed by the spring, so who knows how it will look then.

On the other hand, Intelligent Flux means you can leave Octopus to do all the work, and just reap the benefits. That's got a lot to be said for it.

I am chasing Octopus over transferring into IOF from Flux. I had identical screens to you when I tried the switch. The issue seems to be the handshaking process when logging into our GivEnergy accounts. I have lost count of the number of times I have tried. At one stage, Octopus claimed that my current tariff was Intelligent Octopus (import and export) but, with being unable to grant Octopus permission to use my battery, no data was registering for my account.
Phone calls to CS have been fruitless and no replies from several emails (to smart.octopus.energy and agile.octopus.energy). I have also tried messaging from Octopus's feed on X/twitter. The folk there seem pretty knowledgeable and are trying to help. They switched me back to flexible and outgoing tariffs for a 'fresh start'. This at least wiped out entries for Intelligent in 'Usage' and got rid of the incorrect Intelligent Octopus Go within the onboarding.
I have tried changing my password, deleting my givenergy caches, deleting the octopus app, removing the smart tariff card on the portal and downloading the app afresh from the app store and de-enabling my Octopus entries in HA.
Nothing works except for the white Octopus error message. The deal with the Octopus X team was for me to feed back and they would then put me back onto Flux from the time all this started last Wednesday 11th October.
I do wonder whether the login process for Givenergy isn't allowing enough time for the login. I see the error message in 1-2 seconds. I think the issue might need to be solved between Octopus and Givenergy.
I have a GE AC3.0 coupled inverter that feeds 2 daisy chained GE 8.2 kWh batteries (Gen 2) with 100% DOD. So plenty of battery space (16.4 kWh). 9.75 kWp array on E/S/W feeding a Solaredge inverter so plenty of solar potential (Over 1 MWh in May and June)
Does IOF only work with hybrid inverters? I don't think the daisy-chained batteries would make a difference as Givenergy treats them as a single unit for share and discharge.
I predict that my next input will just confirm that I am back on Flux, from where I will try from time to time to go through the IOF onboarding process again - I know it off by heart.

I will update this thread when I receive fresh news from the X team. Real pity as I wanted to give IOF a go and my battery size should help the grid (provided that my ASHP recently installed doesn't take it all). I would be happy to help the smart team with IOF issues, which is really what BETA is for - let's see.

DD I am currently on Agile, and fixed export, playing with automations, predbat, lots of fun, but not for the faint hearted.
For me, if this was march I would be on IOF like a flash, as March till now I have been a net exporter. No point in storing and time shifting etc as long as your battery carrys you over the peak tariff.
Thats why Octopus have so many tariffs. There is no one usecase or customer :-)

hoggy Great link, nicely explained. "The sweetener for the end user is the symmetrical rates – which if you step back, basically means you have the national grid as your battery instead – every kW you export can be pulled back later for the same cost (bearing in mind the peak periods skew this a little)" Was exactly how I saw it :-)

G
#22 geoffreycoan

justpassing I'll certainly look at IOF for next year's summer exporting.
Even for the last 30 days (90kW import, 403kW export) I calculated that I’d be £20 better off being on IOF than Flux as we are now. As long as you’ve got enough battery to get you through the peak evening period, the lower IOF import rate and much better export rates make it a winner.

For the winter IOF and Flux for me were surprisingly close, only £15 a month more expensive on IOF. But Cosy is £70 a month cheaper so I’ll go with that.

Hope they’ve sorted out the enrolment processes by next spring!

Just to let you know that I gave up with Octopus Intelligence Flux, it was nearly 2 months since I signed up and they could never resolve the issue of my batteries not connecting, it is definitely an API issue I even told them as much as their token was unnamed which shouldn't be the case, so I have gone back to to the old Agile tariff for import and export

R
#24 Rbor

chrisnash And for the record, I gave up a month ago. The team at X/Twitter really supported me and my issue went right up to the Smart team.
It is my first winter with a Heat Pump and I moved onto Cosy and Outgoing fixed from normal Flux on 17th November. I have a large PV array and two 8.2 kWh batteries. The flexibility means that I have been able to make good use of the Savings Sessions by exporting. Cosy is good for a Heat Pump.
I will look at Intelligent Flux again in Spring when real solar generation comes back and the temperature increases. ....... or I might just transfer to Normal Flux then for its flexibility.

I've got the same.issue . I'm thinking it might be.us who have the 100 % dod customer.firmware from eon .

I have been unable to change from flux to IOF as it would not sign me in to GE. OE told me that both my GE & OE accounts have to be on the same email accounts or it will not connect, is that the same for you?
