New to GivEnergy batteries and wanting advice about getting best import/export

Hi, we're both non technical. We have a 9.5kW battery with Solar panels, and a Air Source Heat Pump with underfloor heating. We're based on the West Coast of Scotland. AT this time of year we don't get much solar generation.

We are on Octopus Flux tariff. We thought that the battery would 'learn' and automatically charge/discharge to make best use of the tariff, but this doesn't seem to happen.

What / how would people recommend we set up the battery/system please?

Also - is Flux (import/export) the best tariff - we don't have an EV so can't get the really low import tariff.

Flux is a good tariff if you are exporting a lot. There are better winter tarrifs.

With an air source heat pump you may want to look at “cosy” to heat your home cheaply with the double dip.

paul-les yes pretty sure you get 15p/kWh. As soon as you start exporting in the spring (and the heating goes off) it might be worth switching to flux again!

With flux, you have a tariff combination that is heavily focused on export income, you only get 3 import hours at a low rate per day. This will rarely be enough to maintain an average household, let alone one with an ASHP.

As mentioned, consider a switch to Cosy, where you get two import periods per day, or go with tracker where you get a fixed daily rate. Pair either of these with Octopus Fixed Export, you need to apply again for export and provide the MCS and DNO letter.
Switch back to flux in March/April once it warms up and 10.2kWh of import + solar is enough to cover your day.
