AIO + Octopus Intelligent (No Solar) = Nope

So got my AIO installed yesterday all good on that score - What I can't seem to understand is what seems on the face of it a easy setup (no solar to confuse matters) just isn't working

Disable Green as I want to take control as such
Timed Charge between 23:30 - 5:30 to 100%
Timed Discharge between 5:30 and 23:30 - no point in using battery outside as same price as grid
Timed Export Disabled - I don't want to export anything
Battery set to 6kw for charge and discharge

So logic in those means if no battery runs out before 23:30 just pull from grid, charging period all other house usage pulls from grid

But if I enable this it instantly just start dumping all power at full speed into grid?

So I currently am sitting on Green with everything disabled and seeing it working okay but does seem to have a constant 1-10w feed to grid oddly. What I didn't do yesterday is link it to my octopus account so wondering if that was the key - guess Ill know at 23:30 tonight but it shouldn't need that as its quite logically set out what's required.

Anyone on Intelligent and just using as battery store care to share settings?

I did try and search the forum but most seem to be using with solar which generates more complexity as such.

Leave the timed charge as you have it now. Delete timed discharge and change to Dynamic. That’s it.

Thanks Jase

Doing it in web app not phone so didn't have option to do the dynamic, all I did was disable green again added the time charge and also left discharge disabled (which I think web = dynamic as such) along with as before Time Export Disabled

Early days but its not dumping to grid

Still doing this odd few watts to grid thing though

DreadorUK few watts to the grid normal it’s just the inverter balancing, it usually exchanges a few each way.

Not an AIO, but a PW2 and gateway also trickle a few bits in/out to sync to the grid. It is however tiny.

I felt like I was fighting with mine in the first couple of days, but it turns out it just hadn't finished calibrating which is why it kept trying to dump everything out to the grid. It would have been nice if it said somewhere that it was doing that because it was calibrating, not because it had some settings wrong somewhere.

DreadorUK Have the same setup ie AIO, no solar and Intelligent Octopus.

In Web Portal, select the correct inverter ie AIO (in my case both the gateway and AIO are under the same account, some others have a separate account for each).

In the Inverter setting tab:

  • ECO: enable
  • Timed Charge: enable and set start time to 23:30 and end time to 05:30
  • Timed Discharge: disabled
  • Timed Export: disabled
  • Battery Options: Charge and Discharge both set to 6000 and set your reserve to whatever works for you (it's % set aside for power cuts. 10% is a good starting value)

The effect of this is house still uses grid in the Timed Charge period and the moment the timed charge period ends, the house will get it's power from the battery until either it discharges fully or starts to charge again the following evening (if your draw exceeds the maximum output the gateway will supply power to the house from both the battery and the grid to meet your needs).

I am assuming you initial calibration charge/discharge has happened and your SW has been updated.

Here's hoping you don't suffer from the instant loss of capacity to about 10 kWh

Thanks Tomorrow man put ECO back.

It was going all okay till 10:30 then it started charging battery from grid.

Think I solved with time sync but now now its not using battery for house and pulling from grid

DreadorUK Does the battery have charge in it ? Sounds like see if it charges to 100% overnight and discharges during the day as expected.

Did you typo ie 22:30 instead of 23:30 ?

Yeah it was down to 44% - To be fair after made the change I noticed it went offline so I was probably seeing misinformation - came back and all okay now back to pulling from battery will see what happens at 23:30 🙂

Im having to use cloud feed as issue connecting local but still researching why that is

Do you use a mesh Wifi ? In my case I had to lock the GivEnergy Wifi module to a single mesh node by adding the MAC address of the node.

Unclear if that was actually the fix though as GivEnergy also had me reboot the AIO and I have never had a local connectivity issue since (yes occasionally it says it can't find it locally and I have to hit the retry button and it typically comes back shortly thereafter).

I do but in the end installers gave up trying with that and luckily I had a unused powerline extender so hardwired through that - issue is I can't see them on the network just the hub they connect to - its not the hub though as I made use of the other one and things connected to that show through fine.

DreadorUK if you have a modern mesh Wi-Fi you need to turn the 5GHz signal off so the inverter conn3cts to the 2.4 network. Once connected you can turn 5GHz back on, but turn fast roaming off in the mesh.

I had exactly these issues and there’s another forum post on them

Yeah I did that when they were trying to commission seemed to make no difference, also disabled all but the main mesh router so there wasn't a choice as such - still no joy.

DreadorUK weird I believe it’s having two networks on the same ssid that causes the inverter issues as it wants to use the 2.4 but keeps getting pushed to the 5GHz. So turning off the 5 enables the inverter to connect ok

I guess what's confusing is Im hard wired I can see the two inverters on my network but still get no home connections were found even if I put the IP address in.

Update - I actually got it working with Wifi - disabled security and enabled legacy - but even then couldn't locally connect with app.

I connected to battery dongle wifi and browsed web so that seems to be test to verify working.
