I disabled eco mode to see if the %age would correct itself over a few hours but went to check on it and nada lol, loading up HA now to see if that works, it should because its local but then again so should the app since it has a local mode
Yep, it's dead - and it turns out that https://givenergy.freshstatus.io/ isn't at all accurate
Rubik's Android app is telling me I'm importing as planned which is handy as I'd deliberately dropped the SoC to 15% tonight for a mini calibration. App and main portal still borked though.
sponev oh yeah any schedules set up will be done but portal info is down, home assistant still works. Just wish Home Assistant could show voltages of the AIO currently but it cannot.

Jellybaby i am using rasberry pi, its the most cost effective and neat

Why is the app at least not fully capable of 100% local interfacing and bypassing the cloud, I mean it connects directly to the inverter on a home network.
Things seem to be gradually coming back online. I can get to the givenergy.cloud page but I can't configure anything on the inverter - says it's offline. I'm also disappointed I can't configure it directly from the app and have to use the cloud to modify charge times, for example.
Mine is working ok now. But I have no data from today on the graphs.
I use it very rarely TBH as I have home assistant running which gives me more than enough data!

Jellybaby it checks you actually own the inverter it's talking to and have credentials to allow changes. Else anyone who has the app could mess with it if they are on your WiFi.

The local app overview is now working for me but all remote data and graphing stops around 1.40am. Not sure how they'll resynch that lot. Not going to be adjusting any settings until we know more. Home Assistant next on my to-do list. FFS!

hoggy Yes, the checking has been poorly implemented - there is no reason to continually check the server.
You might carry out a check when a user switches to 'Away' mode, but for 'Home' mode it should just have the serial number encoded in the secure key - no need for a server check.
On a positive note, my inverter is now showing as online - it has been displayed as offline for several weeks.
Ironically, it did show online the other day when my inverter was actually offline...
Pandorian if it checked and cached the info once a week that might be reasonable?
So someone on the local network without permissions to the inverter couldn't use the home mode.
But someone with permission could use it for up to a week after being removed from the portal if they were on the WiFi network.
Gives cover for such outages, but doesn't let it be trusted for ever.

You can still use @Rubikcube app for monitoring and also Richards app for monitoring & settings changes no matter what's going on with the cloud.

TX200 It's all a bit of a nonsense though isn't it? If I really wanted to hack into an inverter I would have a PC with GivTCP installed and try and connect though an unsecured dongle.

Pandorian may also be another hoop to jump through to stop non GE commissioning of DIY/untrained installers. If it worked natively out the box then stuff your commissioning and just tell the owner they need to be at home to change settings/see what it's upto.
You can for instance control an inverter with GivTCP that is not actually commissioned to anything at all by just banging a brand new dongle in it.
Morning all. Newbie here. I assume this issue is why our battery didn't automatically charge overnight...? It's only been a few days since I went live on the Octopus Agile tariff, and at the moment I'm using the 'Tariff Automation' setting (Solar & Battery) on the GivEnergy platform (I get the impression there are better / more sophisticated approaches to setup).
Does this type of issue happen often as it's frustrating we are now having to pay the high morning import tariff rates?!
TheGasMan it doesn't happen often, a few times a year perhaps, but it shouldn't happen at all. I'm not 100% certain but from what is being reported, if your schedule was already set and running, you were OK, but if your charge started after the outage, you were knackered. I was fortunate as I started ours earlier than usual at around midnight on IO, just before it crapped out.
what i would have expected in the morning is an email from GE acknowledging the outage and affirming to users that the fix is in place or a reason for outage. A basic email would have been courteous.
deepanshus It's standard for any decent business providing web services or the like. Proactive communication isn't a strong point here unfortunately, even the most ardent GE proponents would agree I suspect.
sponev you would hope something would be forthcoming. But the VW platform has been on and off all week (maybe more) and not a peep from them so itβs not unique.

deepanshus I contacted GE last night and got an apology email as a result. They said they were investigating the cause of the server failure (9:15am Friday 27th October).
sponev That's just not true. If you subscribe to a PAID service then you may well receive email notifications and apologies, but for a complementary service then that rarely happens.
Pandorian Well, when I bought the GE equipment, it was advertised with the GE portal and app - I think you'll find we paid for that as part of the deal. Oh and it doesn't work without it unless you happen to be a wizard with 3rd party apps, which of course most folk aren't. The cloud/app is all part of the infrastructure and needs to be robust, I don't think we should be excusing GE there.

I don't use the GE app and hardly use the portal, so I didn't notice the outage. My private version of my app does have local control so I can change the settings locally, and has a scheduler that works great with flux. I hope to be releasing a public version with local control in the new year (probably feb/march). Just announcing this as it's a serious alternative to HA, and you may want to take it into account before buying a Pi or other device.
And AIO support is just days away ... if it works!

Rubikcube Excellent. I use your app daily, mainly for temp monitoring but occasionally other things such as cell voltages. Really handy, so thanks. I'd pay a sensible one-off fee for an upgraded version which gives me control options for when the GE guys accidentally pull the plug out again. Whilst I could setup HA, I've plenty of other things to be getting on with just at the moment, so thanks for the positive news.
