Inverter Issue

This morning around 7:30 my batteries went offline. After much trouble shooting this appears to be something to do with the inverter. If the primary battery is isolated I can power it up and it stays on, as soon as I flip the breaker the AC3 inverter starts making some clicking noises and the battery shuts itself down.

My installer is coming tomorrow to have a look but this looks like a hardware failure. The system has been up and running for nearly two years without isssue so far.

Has anybody else had any issues ?

I had the same issue. There is a thread about this on here somewhere.

It took about 1 month to resolve, and in that time I was without a battery. My suggestion:

• report to GE;
• get your installer to come by and inspect, and report it to GE engineers;
• once your installer has failed to fix it, GE will agree to send out their engineer. They were giving me 4-6 weeks to attend, but in reality it took them only 3.
• GE engineer came, inspected the battery, changed a board. And then changed the Inverter. That fixed it.

By the way, the problem was identified by people on this forum as "click of death". But neither my installer or GE support would accept it as a diagnosis. It is one of the boards in the inverter that fails when trying to charge/discharge the battery.

Yes my installer is coming out tomorrow to look at it so I'll share this information with him.

I hope it gets resolved quickly, all the credit I have built up with Octopus is going to dissappear quickly if this drags on.

It sounds like a failed component in the inverter given the fact the battery stays on if isolated from the inverter.

GE were talking about moving to a new way of working where the installers could do more repairs and swapouts rather than wait for GE to come. Not sure if that's started yet or to come.

Either way it's likely they'll replace the inverter. Might be possible to replace the failed part (probably the relays), but for mine they just swapped out the inverter and presumably repaired mine back at their base for someone else to have second hand perhaps.
