Home Assistant Green

Is anyone using the Home Assistant Green Plug and Play hub for connection to Home Assistant for more options on the controls? Apparently recently released and wanted to know if its worth the £90?

Al There's lots of us on this forum (myself included) that use Home Assistant to control our Givenergy inverters and monitor and automate home devices.

As I understand it the HA Green is basically Home Assistant on a dedicated device, you just plug it in and it is up and running. Makes it much quicker and less technical to get going than installing HA on a raspberry Pi, as a virtual machine on a windows or mac or a docker container on a NAS device.

If you already have something that you can install HA on and can follow the install instructions then I'd go down that route. I bought a small PC for about £80 that I run HA on so that's another option, but for £90 the Green is a good way of getting HA up and running.

There's lots you can do with HA, the scheduling of battery charge and discharge based on car load, solar generation, house demand and time of day tariffs is excellent. I reckon I've halved my electricity bill on agile - something I couldn't manage without HA. And you can start doing things like automated lights, motion and temperature sensors, etc.

But if you have enough battery capacity and low enough home demand that your batteries will typically last you through a day anyway, a simple overnight charge of the battery managed through the givenergy app or portal will meet your needs and Home Assistant would be overkill if you didn't want the broader automation stuff
