Hi,
What are the average settings for these batteries.
Mine was set at reserve 4% discharge 2600.
I noticed that having tv on plasma, a couple of pc 's running led table lamps, fridge plus 30mins cooking and the battery is down to reserve by 9pm. Is this a typical thing or does the discharge rate have anything to do with it?

neil_hartup 4% Reserve is quite normal, discharge will depend on the inverter so it is probably quite normal, no need to fiddle with it anyway, just leave it running in 'ECO'.
Have a look at the 'Energy Graph' > 'Daily' > 'Home' that will give you a good idea of your usage pattern and you can compare different days very easily. Likewise 'Power Graph' is good as you can see how everything fits together.
At the end of the day if you use 5kWh of energy over a period of time that's what you use unless you can reduce the usage. Perhaps as in my case at this time of year a 5.2 wasn't man enough for the job adding a 9.5 makes all the difference.

@neil_hartup and also remember that a 5.2 is only 80% depth of discharge so in reality you're not getting 5.2kW, its more like 4.2kW

your consumption doesn't sound unreasonable. Depends on when the battery was fully charged and what you had on.

I've bought a bunch of energy monitoring plugs and CT clamps to better understand my usage. The TV, digi box etc use about 0.7kW a day, my internet router and mini PC running home assistant about 1kW a day, the dishwasher 1.2kW a cycle, the washing machine 0.6kW, the kettle 0.8kW

All adds up

Make less tea, wash less cups but washing clothes are OK!

geoffreycoan maybe you should get a Raspberry Pi to run home assistant and save >500Wh/day?

ImpPhil it does surprise me. I bought the mini PC because I thought it was relatively low power consumption and would be silent, but it seems to be neither, I can hear the fans occasionally and with the monitor and Internet router it is consuming a surprising amount.

I do quite like that it's a PC as well so different home assistant tabs and I've started adding to some of the integrations makes it more useful than a pi in that respect.
And well, 20p a day to run it, I can afford that.

By the time I'd bought a pi, a usb to ssd adapter and an ssd drive I'm not going to save much.

How much is a plasma consuming? I think they are in the region of 450-650W for a 55” one, so typically YV would be 200-350Wh per hour.

If you don’t mind the slight motion stutter of some of the newer technologies, then you could probably get that down to something much smaller.

Of course you have to question the logic of spending money to save money of it doesn’t need replacing anyway.

kram is worth it for certain things, for example replacing super old inefficient fridges or freezers.

These can cost more to run than new ones would, by enough to pay itself back within a year or two.

Tv isn't typically always on, so potential gains are lower.

The data in the charts should show op what usage is like and can help to work out where stuff is used.

For some yes, probably not for others, especially when new tech might be inferior in some ways.

However many people can’t afford to spend £1000 to save it back over 5-10 years.

From an environmental point of view, that doesn’t even begin to count total energy from manufacturing through total life, but that’s a whole separate conversation.

kram You have to measure and work it out, only way to tell.

I've seen examples of old fridges/freezers using significantly more power than modern ones do, so in those cases payback is usually significantly faster than 5-10 years.

Things like tumble driers if you go to a heat-pump one are a lot more efficient as well, each time you use those it costs you less, soon adds up.

In any case, only way is to get stats and see, you can add smart plugs to devices that can record power usage over time, one way to do it.

Hmm... my fridge and freezer are pretty old, and have been thinking about replacing them. What are the typical running costs of newer devices ?

(Also thinking of getting a heatpump, and getting the boiler out of the kitchen would give us space for a fridge-freezer.

We have a 55" plasma TV and quality over running costs are the priority. It's only on for 5 hrs a night so cheaper than changing it.
We also have smart plugs and they are a bonus.

My missus got pretty fed up of my raised eyebrows whenever she turned our tumble drier on, so she persuaded me to invest in a Samsung Heat Pump Drier.
Not cheap, we got a deal at £699, but the efficiency gain is remarkable, down to less than half a kwh per load, absolutely silent, programmable and has removed the potential for friction in our relationship. 👍😃🤡
