Firmware update Nov 23

Anyone else have an option to update their firmware? My battery is 3013 already and there is nothing to say what version the new firmware is or what it does.

Its version 3015

I also have a firmware update available today for AIO - Not sure what it is as I thought I was now up to date.

Battery on 7 and Inverter 608 and nothing in knowledge base past them.

Just tried to update…all was done ok until I got all sorts of notification errors once battery started calibrating. One of the battery was found off…Tried full power cycle of everything and no better luck…one of the battery turns of a few seconds after pressing the black button on the side! Hybrid Gen2 5kw, 2x5.2kwh batteries…will be on technical support first thing tomorrow morning!

I was brave and pressed the UPGRADE button. It is at 53%. Will see soon what happens!

GaryS I thought i was brave and clicked it as soon as i saw the posts on FB! Now i regret it! Let us know how it went!

So it crashed.. UPDATE FAILED. And now AIO wont come back online.

GaryS i guess tech support will be busy tomorrow then!

After my update on Gen1 Hy 5.0 and 9.5kWhr battery to 3013 and then subsequent downgrade back to 3012 I will wait a bit

Could be worse, normally it's a Friday afterboon release followed by lots of weekend efforts from support that could be easily avoided by you know...just waiting until Monday...

Hold on! The wine worked!!!
While I was having the 2nd glass, the upgrade finished in the cupboard under the stairs. The light went disco mode green-red-green-red and then it let out a long painful beep..... restarted and came back online, now on D0.608-A0.609.
Think I will have a 3rd glass of Sauv Blanc while observing its behaviour.

From past experience and reading the other horror stories, I'll be leaving this one a few weeks at least.

chris_p Oh come on!! Just choose the right wine. It will all work out just fine. Like the Chancellor's Autumn Statement.. everything will feel better once we stop complaining.... lol

DreadorUK AIO Inverter has gone to 609, battery remains at 7

My creaking old 80% DOD 8.2 appears to have taken it OK, will be interesting to see what capacity it has this calibration (it usually takes another nosedive each time with actual AH capacity (7.4kWh last time))

Thanks I only just went to 608 which had its issues but hopefully resolved after a calibration so just getting some popcorn to see how GaryS gets on (if he's still sober 🙂 )

DreadorUK mine hasn't kicked off a calibration after the firmware. Was assuming it will be battery firmware that will trigger that and not the inverter firmware ??

Yeah thats what happened to me with 608 no recalibration but when I got it I had the battery firmware and it for sure caused a recalibration.

For 608 and my lack of full charge they did a manual calibration

updated my 8.2kwh battery last night during my cheap rate. firmware done in about 20 mins , battery discharged as expected though it was already at 5% anyway , then charged till about 3am. all good.
Now just need my gen 1 5k hybrid inverter to be updated /modified.

The knowledge base article is all in tech speak which is no good for normal people.

I also suspect that the Giv team do not look at this forum anymore but use the Facebook groups so I wouldn't hold your breathe on getting an explaination in plain english on here.

Couldn't resist as the 2 8.2kw batteries were down to 20%. Thankfully everything went smoothly. The only oddity is the batteries appear to have imported 17.36kwh which is more than the combined total of the batteries (and one of the 8.2s is an original with 80% DoD)

Firmware seemed to upgrade ok, but no calibration. .batterry now empty/flat.. what do I do next? How do you kick off a calibration cycle? Come on GivEnergy this doesn’t present a good image of SW development and testing.

AlyBee22 mine stayed at 0% for about 45 mins before the calibration started. There were 4 notifications - 1. Firmware update started 2. Battery Calibration Started 3, Firmware update finished 4. Battery Calibration Finished

I just can't resist pushing a button!!!

It's telling me the firmware has been updated and the calibration has started.

AlyBee22 Discharging to empty is part of the calibration, quite often the SOC will report at 0 but the discharge will continue for some time until 'true' 0 is found. is the battery still discharging but just showing 0 or is it really doing nothing? (Screenshot of the power graph might help)

Just received a message saying calibration complete. It’s still showing idle and not taking up surplus solar.
No clue what to do next. This is not intuitive for none techies.

jqworle snap, on both points, a successful firmware upgrade and the need for progress on the gen 1 5kw hybrid.

AlyBee22 calibration complete would usually mean it's charged up to 100% (so no space for taking surplus solar) what does the power graph show?

Stevef1964 its surprisingly telling if you know what to look for.

VERSION 3015 (coming on portal soon)

Fix the bug where the charging and discharging current becomes 0 when battery parallel fails (Out of spec) - sounds like it stops the other battery's not doing anything if you have multiple packs and one of them faults.
Buffer Overflow error fix, causing BMS crash - sounds like you could send too much erroneous data to the battery which would crash it needing an engineer visit (potentially was why 3013 got pulled)

3014 in private appeared to have the bulk of the fixes though, with various routines to stop the annoying "once cell goes too high the battery reads as 0%" bug.
Also seems to attempt to address the poor cell balancing noted in previous releases.

My BMS has just copmleted the upgrade to 3015 and looks to be back up and running. The next few hours/days will tell me if this was worth it.

Mine seems to have gained .1kWh from the calibration. So 7.5kWh now. First time its ever gone back up.

I'm on 3013 and have the update button available.

I think I'll wait a bit first because after I updated to 3013 then had a few problems (thankfully been OK since). If/when I do update I might try it at midnight and then the recharge during calibration will fall during Flux cheap rate, also the battery will be closer to empty at that time of night.

My battery's done fairly well today chargewise, even got some solar charging. I'm going to try to kick off the upgrade a little before the Octopus Flux peak period, so the battery emptying process will less financially wasteful 😃

Spencers Yes I am thinking the same way. I also do not want to update the firmware a the weekend so will do it during the week overnight.

killythebid I'm going to leave it a few weeks before I do anything. Been burnt before with updates on various pieces of equipment round the house, so now I wait to see feedback about updates first before I commit. I should have known better with 3013 as well, but slipped up on that.

+Anybody know if Giv can administer the firmware and avoid the battery calibration? I have just emailed them, but sometimes the forum is quicker.

Zakalwe Indeed! It is amazing how strong the urge is to update to the latest no matter what for many. I say that as one who feels the pull of the button rather than being above such effects. But I shall resist until the time that suits me. I have in reality had no issues with 3013 in any case.

Roberto I think they can I am sure I have seen posts about it when the last firmware came out. I am not convinced it is a good idea not to have the calibration complete though. The update to the BMS firmware is likely to work best when it starts from a clean known state of the battery and the best way to get there is a calibration.

killythebid sort of why I have asked Giv support. Im hoping for a reply in next 2 days. I'm Ok with a battery cal, just not when it wants to charge 2 off 9.5s on standard (non E7) rate !

killythebid If you have no issues don't update anything, ever, that is my motto. Until my banking app stopped working as android version was too low I had never updated my S7 Edge since I got it at release til about 5 years later lol

I want to upgrade, but am not sure there's anything in it for me yet - other than potential pain!

Had my system handed over from the installer a couple of days ago, I think it was on 3007 but there were problems so support updated me to 3015. That required a battery recalibration, so I missed the Octopus saving session, and the calibration didn't work. Now having another calibration at peak rate. Hopefully I can catch this afternoon's saving session, we'll see.

I through caution to the wind last night by activating the firmware update...yes, a gamble, I know.
Inverter updated quickly, battery discharged to 0% then lost comms, so I woke to an empty unresponsive battery. Not amused.
Credit to GivEnergy though, I got straight through to the support line and the battery was back on line within 5 minutes. 👍😃
