Smart Export Guarantee

First post, our system started up yesterday so if I sound as if I don't know what I'm talking about, it's because I don't!

We have, I believe, a 5kwh solar set up. So far today (15:20) it's generated 12.6kwh, with 1.8 exported to the grid. Given that it's still March, it seems to me we should be looking at getting paid to export it.

So - how do we do this? And what energy company do people recommend? We're with Eon Next, but I understand we can sell to other companies? Is there anything else I should know?

You can register for SEG with any supplier offering a SEG tariff. The best one at the moment is Octopus SEG at 7.5pkh. You will need your MCS certificate to register your system. Takes a couple of weeks but payments will be back dated.

You can either export to the same company you import from or you can export to a different company if they allow this. Some will give a better rate to those who are also import customers, however depending of the import tariff you have that maybe limit the export tariff from the same company, this is the case with Octopus Go.

If you are an Octopus customer, you could register for Octopus Agile outgoing (where the rate ahs not dropped below about 16p/kWh and is a lot higher at peak times, or thioer fixed version, which is 7.5p from memory.

A lot better than SEG rates elsewhere.

To do this you will need the DNO pre AND post commissioning approvals, and your MCS certificate.

In basic terms, you need the following:
To have an account with any provider so they can pay you.
Your Meter number
Proof that the panels on the roof are yours to be paid (installer certificate in your name for example).
Proof that your system meets the needs of the DNO (possibly not needed if under 3.6kw)
Proof that the install was carried out professionally (MCS certificate).

I currently export using Octopus agile and the rates are very high at the minute as they are based on the market price.
