I updated my battery software on 24/11/23 from 3013 to 3015.

I woke the next morning to find that my system was pulling straight from the grid, not the 9.5 battery, so I turned everything off, then when I turned back on there was a buzzing noise, then the battery turned off.

I’m on Octopus agile, so now have to run straight from the grid, costing me a lot more money!

I’ve contacted givenergy and they are sending someone out to have a look , but who knows when that maybe!!!

My battery is showing as a 6.4 not the 9.5 I have, also charge and discharge rate is down to 3200 not 3600, and I can’t change!

I had similar before with an update, but I reported, and was fixed remotely.

I believe a bug fix is needed in 3015, so I wouldn’t update!

I notice also that it's list the battery as lead-acid, not Li-ion.

Regarding the noise bit. If you search on here / Facebook for "click of death" is it similar to that kind of symptom?

hoggy yes, I think that, too!

had came issue last night, called support and they fixed remotely by setting the battery to correct version and restarting batts a new time.......its poorly developed and tested software!

I would keep my eyes on the engineer they send also as the one who visited my property was friendly but threaded screws and bodged a fix.....only noticed when a 3rd party company come back to look at the batt they added and noticed inverter bodges.....

forgot to add I have Gen 3 3.6Kw (GIV-HY3.6) inverter and 2x 5kwh batts

I've got a battery firmware update button on my dashboard but it doesn't say to what version it will ugrade, or what is in the new version. Given that my system is working really well currently (touch wood) I'm not not touching it until GE give me a good reason to do so.

Don't touch it - if I could go back to 3012 I would. Now on 3015 8.2kWh battery, full discharge yesterday 0.91kWh!

Up dated my firmware last night. Notified that the update was successful but the inverter green light was flashing and the battery status light is off with 0% charge. Contacted Givenergy who remotely got the battery to charge and the green light to stop flashing. Now the battery firmware is 0 and the battery type is Lead acid. I've contacted GE again but being late in the day I don't expect a reply today and Christmas is very close. Is there a fix for this that I can do? I have a Gen 3 3.6 inverter with 5.2 battery. Firmware is now D0.307-A0.307 for the inverter.
Thanks

Try turning battery off (9.5 has button on side) and turning inverter off (mcb?).
Turn any isolators between battery and inverter off.
Wait 30s and turn all back on.
May do a proper reboot

I’m still on 3012 for both my batteries. Watching the 3015 threads with interest but atm see no reason to update as it’s like a lot of the recent software releases I.e will take about 2-3 patches to get it working correctly. Only thing I can think of is maybe the BMS update works better with the most up to date inverter software which GE have access to but we don’t?

Smk82 3012 behaved roughly the same as 3015 does here - any major SoC changes were always upwards. No SoC crashes to zero or low battery warnings.

If 3012 is working for your usage case then stay there is my advice.

GivEnergy updated my inverter firmware to D0.307-A0.307 and my battery to 3015. They then said it needed recalibration. I took a shower while it was charging under calibration and that caused it to go idle.

I emailed them as they said "I think there was a background setting invalid after the last fw update, resumed this for you now" and after them sending a lot of commands it continued with the calibration and has worked well since apart from the app pause button no longer working.

The firmware update was to fix the issue I had where it would always discharge slowly to the grid from 100% down to 95%, It now works as expected, it will stay at 100% and export while the sun is out. Before it would discharge to 95% and then charge to 100% and repeat while the sun was up and even when charging from the grid.

It also now discharges to 5% and goes idle, whereas it would stop at 6 or 7% before. I don't know why it doesn't go to 4% as the reserve and cutoff limits are set to but at least it is closer.

nophead promising however I can’t do any inverter updates as I need an EMS before they can effectively run the faster FW (or so I’ve been informed). Just crossing my fingers it will be out Jan/feb

What is an EMS?

Smk82 Same here. 3.12 is reasonably steady for us and seeing quite a few update issues elsewhere, we'll hold for now.

nophead energy management system. It’s the forthcoming box of tricks from GE which allows more than a single inverter to work together. From the most recent presentation V1 is designed for multiple AC3, v2 (apparently some point later next year) will do hybrid. It will keep everything in sync but also sort out all the ridiculous data that plant systems going through a single EM115 generates.

Agree. I'm also on 3012 and happy. However the pull of "keep it up to date" is strong. Out of interest, if it was perfect, does anyone know what would 3015 add as benefits over 3012? I've read the release notes, but in human-speak what is 3015 intended to improve? More capacity? Faster response times? Is it kinder to the battery? Or is it all under-the-hood stuff intended to address issues that some of us fortunately are currently not seeing?

Also... Shortest day today! More solar from now on. Yea!

My battery worked fine on 3012 but the inverter would discharge it when it got to 100% down to 95%. I was told I needed an inverter update that I would have to do myself but I was away from home for a couple of months. When I got back and asked for the file the inverter and the battery were updated remotely. I was a bit annoyed because I didn't want the battery updated due to all the problems I see here. Our battery has never had any sudden SOC drops.

Having said that 2015 seems to work a bit better. On 3012 when it got to 6% it would always bounce back after being idle for a while and do that two of three times in the early hours of the morning. So far 3015 goes to 5% and has only once bounced back, it usually flat lines until it gets charged again, Also on 3012 it would sometimes decide it was at 100% and discharge for quite a long time before dropping. I.e. It seemed to decide it had more than 100%. Now it just flat lines at 100 and drops lower soon after it is discharged.

So all in all it seems more deterministic.

nophead very useful thanks. We also see the small top and bottom end quirks but at the moment they're manageable, certainly not enough of a problem to make me risk a pre-Christmas update! Our last couple of updates failed and needed USB sticks, cable purchases and covers off for me to rectify. I think I'll ask GE to do it, minus the recal, when holiday is over.

Digger Update, GE got back to me this morning. All sorted. They suggested resetting the inverter using the top right button on the inverter page.
