Export Meter Readings and Octopus?

Quick question for those on Octopus....

After many weeks of trying to get my Export Tariff set-up, I am now told it is set-up and to send them a picture of my export meter. They will then pay me whenever I send in a new export reading.

Shouldn't this be read automatically via the Smart Meter ?

It will be.

Not sure why they want an opening reading via a photo. But yeah, you're not the only one to have that request.

I'd think maybe security, but that's silly as the meters are designed to be secure, so no need to have such a reading manually.

Maybe it's just in case the export readings aren't initially working, so you don't miss out on any export should things go wrong.

We were asked to do the same and now send them a photograph of the reading every month.

Ha ha.
4 years on and my smart meters are still dumb.
I have had huge rows with them and now back to manual readings every month for Eco7 import and standard rate export.
I have told them I want to go to the Ombudsman but they would rather offer me Customer Service gestures to cancel the complaint, but they will cancel the 'gestures' if I keep going.
TBH the the gestures in no way covers the peak export I could make in summer if I was on something like Flux, so I will keep going.
I have shown them how someone fixed this, but Octo are slaves to what the DCC do or don't do.

I have a standing issue that my Smart Meters are 12 hours out, so all my off-peak usage is recorded (and charged) as peak. To be fair Octopus have handled this well. It seems it is a fault with certain early Smart Meters and they never can keep the time, so they are replacing both my meters beginning of December and recalculating the charges for me.

They just seem to get very confused when it comes to setting up Exports 🙂

They ran for months saying all was OK with the data.
When I pointed out that most of my import was off peak they said "we cant see the data, so have to charge you standard rate"
I used the download and presented them all the half hourly data from my EM115.
They said "we dont accept 3rd party data".
I said "let the Ombudsman decide. I have some data, you have none"
They sorted the bill by a customer service gesture as I guess they cannot ever say they were wrong on metering or it will open a can of worms.

I have a similar spreadsheet ready for them. But at least I know they have the data (or it is available via the DCC) `🙂
