I seem to be losing on average about 10% of the power i produce to the grid. My self consumption subsequently hovers around the upper 80s to mid 90s. Is this normal?

When inverting from DC to AC or vice versa there is always an efficiency loss, that's why the inverter gets warm. Around10-15% is normal.

gerryash The best you'll get is around 98% IME which equates to you using all of the PV generation possible - there will always be some back & forth balancing between the inverter and the grid so you'll never get 100% self-consumption.

I get 96-97% self-consumption in summer, more like 85% in winter as the battery gets charged to 100% each night so if the morning is sunny I'll end up exporting some power. I doubt I'd be getting that level of self-consumption in summer apart from the Solar iBoost I insisted the installer fitted - that more or less heats our water in summer with a 5-10 minute blip from the boiler as necessary.

I have compared my self consumption to another givenergy user in the same area and their self consumption seems to be always in the upper 90s and their leakage is about 1%. I also know someone else with a different system in my local area and their leakage is less than 1%.
