Hi. My system is a gen 2 5kw hybrid inverter and a 9.5kwH battery. As if yesterday, it also includes the GivEnergy EV charger.

And (good timing), I just got an EV today (Ioniq 5).

I'm trying to figure out the various settings. Is there any benefit in having GE control over the Car's system (bluelink). Also, I had plugged it in with the aim of charging tonight (I'm on Octopus Go), but it started randomly charging even though "plug and go" is disabled.

Is there any decent guides or tutorials on the settings? The stuff they provide with the charger is very basic and not that helpful.

michaelhoskins are you using the app or the portal for the EV charger?

When I have opened the portal and expanded the EVC tab, I’ve had a weird quirk where the car will start charging. It only does this through the portal, not the app.

I thought the app was going to be more intuitive than it is, but I suspect it will be polished up in an update.

Thanks. It was the app, but it might have happened when I looked at the advanced tab and tried to select "prevent discharging battery to EV" (which I would have thought should be default!?)

michaelhoskins yeah although I’ve found that quirk with the portal, the advanced settings there are much more intuitive. To answer your original question, I’m not sure there are any user guides available out there. I’ve learnt through trial and error, by using both the app and the portal. Ultimately the three settings have a distinct difference but I am mostly charging with a schedule in my 4 hour go period. I was lucky enough to get a few sunny days after install, to check solar charging.

c_squared thanks. Yes, I think trial and error will be needed.

The other thing I noticed is that the EV shows as house consumption in the main app data. I would have thought that being all in the same ecosystem, the system would know the difference between "Home" and "EV"...

michaelhoskins I have the opposite in my App. The EV shows what it's drawing and this isn't added to the home demand nor the overall graph. But if I charge in the day my battery goes idle and the whole demand is met from the grid and PV. The battery seems to not want to play at the same time, but the settings seem to suggest the battery would at least meet the home demand.

My charger is fitted on Henley blocks before my consumer unit so I wonder if that's why. The EM115 CT clamps haven't been moved from the CU to before the joint but I don't know if that's required or not. But that said, I'd assume as it's all connected together does that actually matter?

DanH the portal settings are a little easier to understand on this one, for me anyway, and the settings are a little different from the app. On the portal, you can set the power that the battery will supply on top of the house load.

I started a hybrid charge the other day and the battery was supplying the house demand only. The 1.4kw to the car were coming from the grid. Jumped into the settings on the portal, moved the slider and the battery covered the EVC load as well.

DanH I'd assume as it's all connected together does that actually matter?

Being connected together means they are all at the same voltage but the CT clamp measures current flow and that will be different on the three branches. The current into and out of the junction will sum to zero. Kirchhoff's laws.

nophead so should the original CT clamps have been moved to before the Henley block? Or remain where they were in the CU.

I think most people prefer the EV load not to be measured, so it doesn't empty their house battery when it charges. If you move it before the split the inverter will see the EV as part of your house load and try to power it.
