Hey All,

My G3 + 9.5 batt was installed yesterday, have been really happy with the performance so far, however after the installers left I noticed a high pitched whine coming from the inverter.

Spoke with Giv Support today and went through a firmware update / reboot, neither sorted it, its going to be picked up by second line support on Monday, first line said the unit was running fine but had never heard the whine before.

**edit: wanted to add, the support team were excellent, called me back and kept me informed when I sent them a video of the whine.

Spoke with the Installer they're also coming back on Monday to check the system.

Wondering if anyone else has had this with theirs? I have noticed a smell of plastic too coming from the unit.

I noticed that the GEN2 inverter has a high pitched whine, the GEN1 it replaced was next to silent.
As my inverter is out in the Garage the noise doesn’t bother me, but the GEN2 (and suspect GEN3) is definitely noisier.

I can't say I've heard my gen3 whining.

It'll be a badly potted inductor somewhere. Nothing much to be done about it apart from replace the component, which won't be happening.

Frequency is at 19000Hz which is in my audible range, flagged it back to the installer as I am not happy having that whining at me 24/7.

Giv came back to me on my original recording and said it was within operating parameters, however I can't imagine how they can call it normal.

You must be quite young then. It is a long time since I could hear 19kHz. I probably max out at around 14kHz or less now I am over 60.

Perhaps all G3 invertors do it but most people can't hear it.

Poor design though if it switches in the audible range of humans and common pets. Modern devices normally have switching frequencies much higher so they can use smaller inductors.

I am fortunate / unfortunate to have great hearing for my age.

I've followed up the issue with Giv who have escalated it as that is very much in the range of what can be heard, I suspect there is a manufacturing fault however the initial feedback was it was fine based on an audio recording, it wasn't until I did a frequency check that it was referred.

I guess the first person that listened to the audio couldn't hear it? 🤣
