I'm using a wired network connection to our gen 2 5Kw inverter. Four times now we have lost Comms to the Givenergy app/cloud. It seems to happen early in the morning and lasts for several hours and then just starts communicating again. The inverter/battery system continues to operate fine and resetting the solar system and or internet hub has no effect. Anyone else had a similar issue?
Wired network connection instead of Wi-Fi dongle
Dodgy LAN cable?
is the Lan cable connected direct to router, into a switch or maybe a Mesh Hub? Eliminate the Cable as the problem first.
Your ISP isn't by any chance Sky? If so then some of their routers go into power-saving mode by default in the early hours of the morning.
The cable is fine and connects to a switch which then goes to the BT home hub. We have other devices connected in the same way without any issues. When i disconnect the cable from the inverter. The blue comms lights starts flashing as its trying to send/receive data. Plugging the network cable back in and the blue comms light stops flashing.
I continue to have no end of connectivity issues, currently offline for a few days, same thing, hard wired ...seemed to get better with AIO firmware 7 but since installed 8 it's taken a dive....
You may need to speak to @TheDragon (GivEnergy) as I had drop outs very frequently every hour where I couldn’t speak to the inverter for 6-7 mins at a time and he applied a patch to the dongle which makes the drop outs much less frequent. You should email support.
I don't have a WiFi dongle as I have a hard wired LAN and you can't have the dongle in when hard wired ( well it stopped our system communicating). I have been emailing GE support but as they can't communicate with the system there is little they can do. The strange thing is I can connect directly via IP to a computer using the same LAN cable.
Ortwin were you able to confirm whether the router goes into a power saving mode overnight? I think BT ones can be configured to do that too.
DCostura
Same herebut with wifi connection. Updated firmware in early Jan and now lost all 'Home' connection yet the data is going through to Givenergy - just not to the app. reinstalled app - no change.
may look at hardwiring the system - little reluctant since it works for the 'Away' data.
MT68 if data is reaching the cloud, the system definitely has a network connection, which presumably has to be via your router. (Unless it's managed to get onto another insecure router nearby ..?)
If you are on android, you could try the free alternate unofficial app, which connects (only) locally. I believe there's also a third-party app for iOS, but don't know anything about that.
deanjesper @TheDragon (GivEnergy) I revived an email from support from Sept that said they would come out to look but never got back to me so we'll see...
Our BT home hub 5 is not setup for power save mode overnight.
At 03:42 this morning we lost connection to our inverter again. According to the Givenergy App and Cloud the inverter off line. I'm hoping it will come back on by itself as I am stuck at work. failing that I will get the better half to carry out a Router reset and see if that helps.
Well it looks like our BT connection is not as stable as we would like. Most days it's around the 70Mb down load and 18 upload speed. However it seems to be dipping down in the 40's but not dropping out completely. Not sure if this is the cause of the lost connection but trying to get BT to look into it.
Ortwin It will be. DLM (dynamic line managment) will look at various parameters on your line and depending on the results may resync the line in the early hours of the morning at a lower or higher rate depending on line quality.
https://kitz.co.uk/adsl/DLM.htm#DLM_categorising_the_line has the last publically known figures - they were certainly right last time I was on VDSL2 back in 2020.
Ortwin I HIGHLY doubt its your internet otherwise it would only go out as your internet goes out.
I agree but just trying to eliminate all possibilities as one side blames the other. at least the inverter/battery keeps working.
It looks like the issue is resolved as we started having issues with our WiFi printer as well. The solution was to replace our network switch which seemed to allow the solar and printer to be seen on the network but not communicate with or send data. New network switch fitted and a month in all is fine.
