Scheduling issues for Givenergy 9.5kw battery and inverters

Hello

I'm looking for someone to help me please.

I have a solar and ASHP set up with a 9.5 KW battery and the new Givenergy 5 inverters. I finally had a functioning Smartmeter installed last week and moved our tariff across onto Octopus Flux. At the same time I signed up for the Axle Energy DFS event - I have since withdrawn from this due to the problems I have been having with the app and the scheduling of charging and discharging energy.

I have been using the cloud version of the scheduling interface as well as the app.
I have attempted to set the charge and discharge mode as pictured in the attached screenshot.
I have also turned off ecomode on the cloud website.
I want the battery to charge in the night between 02.00 - 05.00 using the cheap energy and discharge in the evening between 16.00 - 22.00
I want the energy to go into the home, not the grid so we can benefit from the cheaper energy.
I'm happy to schedule this myself
I'm not sure what Ecomode does

My main issue is that having scheduled and saved the settings in the app, they change automatically to another schedule. Today for example, the battery started taking power from the grid in the morning at about 09.30 while the sun was shining. It was not part of the schedule. When I checked this in the app, the schedule had changed to something else. I've spent a lot of time messing about with the app and the cloud version this weekend but to no avail. In short, It's 'doing my head in'! Every time I set a schedule in the app or on the website, it changes automatically and I find us importing energy or exporting it to the grid seemingly at random. It is not doing what we want it to do and I need help.

If anyone can help or has experienced similar problems, I'd really appreciate it.

Wilkinson I too am new to the world of solar, batteries and scheduling, I'm on octopus flux and all was working as expected until I changed to octopus intelligent Flux, octopus connected to my givenergy battery straight away and it started behaving exactly as you describe. Unfortunately the tariff hadn't changed so within a few hours instead of cheap electricity we were using peak cost power.
I emailed octopus to cancel the tariff change and whilst waiting for a reply I found the link to terminate the battery connection in the octopus app.

Simple answer, covered many times in various threads. e.g.

Set ECO on,
Set timed charge time 02:00 - 16:00 - ENABLED
Timed discharge Disabled (Default after a RESET)
Timed Export Disabled (Default after a RESET)

If you'd been trying different things Start by 'RESET TO DEFAULTS''> SUBMIT , make sure you get a positive acknowledgement and do not rush and remember to click SUBMIT after making each change.

Battery charged during cheap rate and held until 16:00. House will be powered from the solar/grid during the day until 16:00 with excess solar being exported, after 16:00 battery gets used first, solar second, grid third. (Other than apparent/real operational variances which happen due to the way the system works)

Wilkinson I'm not sure what Ecomode does

ecomode, or "dynamic" in the app, is where the inverter tries to control the battery discharge rate to exactly match consumption. So if demand exceeds solar, it will discharge to cover the difference.

That's bad. You have given access/permission to Axle to tinker with your system, but outside of a savings session they shouldn't really be tinkering with your system. On the web portal, in the 'remote control' section (gears icon) there's an activity log at the bottom. That should list all te changes that have been made via the cloud (ie via api or the app). (It is possible to bypass, and communicate directly with the inverter locally, eg using home assistant.)

There's also some sort of smart tariff mechanism. I'm not sure how that works, since I've not tried it. In the 'smart tariff' section of the app, there's an 'automations' link. For me, it just says 'none', but I think that's another mechanism that can adjust things behind your back.

(I assume you know about the cosy tariff for ASHP, but Flux works better for you..?)

I am having very good results using My Energy Optimiser (MyEO) software. I am on Agile with 19kWh batteries and one Hybrid 5.0 inverter.

It saved me £60 last week compared to the Flexible tariff (I used 537kWh in the week).

I moved to Agile (controlled with Home Assistant and Predbat in my case) in October. I moved to agile because with an ASHP I too have high consumption, way more than I could manage on the battery, and whilst tariffs like Cosy give a double charge, the peak rates are expensive.

I think being on Agile has been between 2/3 and 1/2 the price of being on the standard variable rate. You do have to be prepared to take the rough with the smooth though, the rates were flat a couple of weeks ago and have dropped a bit now, but in early December they reached 60-65p/kWh in the peak rate period. When this happened I did turn the ASHP off for a few hours!

Glad to hear the MyEO is working out well for you. Its certainly an easier way of getting Agile working effectively than Home Assistant etc. Wonder Watt is similar. Both these (and Octopus R&D) do rely on internet connectivity from the cloud servers to your GivEnergy inverters which is unfortunately a potential weak point, but not much you can do about it without a local install (such as Home Assistant)
