Shut down for maintentance

Hi all, I need to fit a new doorbell transformer. There is not single feed for it and I'm not certain what to turn off to cut the power to it. In the absence of turning things off one by one I was going to turn the whole house off. Will that be enough to isolate the transformer or do I need to turn the PV/battery off too? If I need more than just the house turned of, do I need to turn the kit off first or will it be ok having supply removed before touching the inverter switches?

Sounds like you'll have to turn off the inverters too, or at least isolate them from the house, since they are able to feed AC too, They may (should ?) automatically stop producing AC when the grid supply is removed, for safety, but I'd be happier fully isolating them.

My guess is it'll be on a downstairs lighting ring. 😁

Guessing you can't ring the door bell with the circuit off (to see if you've got the right one) as it's broken?

For others who read this topic as well, it very much depends on how the house is wired. For example in an AIO install model would need to be isolated as well the grid. As it takes over when the grid is down.

For other installs (e.g. AC3, Hybrid) it depends on how the installer wired things up - for example was an EPS circuit installed and is that transformer wired off the EPS consumer unit.

For absolute safety, yeah, isolate any inverters including standalone solar inverters as well as the grid.

If you search for the relevant product's GivEnergy install manual on Google or preferred search engine, you should find a shutdown and startup procedure in that document.

TX200 My doorbell is on the downstairs lighting circuit.
My consumer unit feeds off the AIO so turning off the breaker for the lighting circuit on the CU is enough to isolate it. I don't need to turn off AIO or grid.

Yeah that's fine for you, but not everyone will know which circuit it is on (especially if the doorbell is broken, although not sure it is on this particular example).

When I worked a few night shifts I had to turn off the circuit to turn off my door bell. Also meant all the mains wired smoke alarms powered off. Hopefully they have backup batteries. 😁

Had a similar problem before batteries and panels. Just bought a wireless doorbell. That was 4 years ago still working and I have changed the batteries twice.

For clarity the current doorbell works but we are swapping out from an Arlo one to Reolink (same for all our cameras too) as the cameras are faulty and it means we then don't have to spend £10/month on cloud subscription. The new doorbell requires a higher voltage to work. The current one only goes up to 8v.

I think if I get a chance, and I can use the doorbell as an indicator, I'll have a go turning things off one at a time. I should have enough time in daylight tomorrow to do the task.

When I installed my Ring doorbell for an old wired one, it was on the middle light circuit (we live in a townhouse). So I'd try whichever light circuit the box housing the ringer is on first.

MarkyG82 get yourself a cheap multimeter to test if the circuit is actually off

If you have to ask then you are not competent to do the job.
Don't be complacent with mains electricity, it can kill you in an instant.

Just thought I'd update this.

I took the advice from here and started with the lighting rings. Turns out it's on the upstairs lighting. Off it went and swapped the doorbell out first. Just on the off chance I turned the breaker back on and the device fired up and worked. Old transformer was not very happy though. Off again and swapped the transformer out. Back on and the doorbell and transformer are both happy.
All told it took about 20 mins including hunting for my big drill for new holes in brick. Just need to make sure all the right people have the new app now.
