So, got to the bottom of this one:
If Battery Temp <= 0 then No Charge
Now, this hasn't been a problem (even up here in Scotland at fairly consistently low temps for a week or so), UNTIL the givback event - my theory?
The forced discharge down to minimum generated a bunch of heat, but then, the normal automations were not turned back on until much later, meaning that heat had dissipated, and with only a small reserve left, there wasn't enough discharge to generate heat to bring the unit back above zero.
Perhaps a potential solution would be for axle energy's automation to ensure a charge immediately after the event - even to 25%, when rates were lower, to stop the cycle getting stuck.
Is there anyone from axle on here, or does anyone have more thoughts to feedback?
