I have purchased a bunch of GE Smart plugs. They seem to be similar to other brands usung the Smart Life branded wifi interface.

My oroblem is that I have successfully set one plug up in the GE app and have things working, but can't get Alexa or Google Home to see the plug.

The only way I can get it to work in Alexa and Google Home is to unlink the plug from the GE app and add it in the Smart Life app, which means it's not integrated into the GE app anymore.

Is really like both. Has anyone cracked this?

The givenergy knowledge base has an article on Alexa. Is there anything useful in there?

Unfortunately not, the knowledge base article talks about the Alexa Skill which I understand only allows you to request infor.ation about your battery.

Gregz they may just not have updated the article ? I don't have Alexa but I assume a "skill" is just a way to invoke some action in response to a command. Is it hard to modify their skill to add the features you need?

Gregz just had a look at the KB article - rather less detailed than I had assumed. But it explicitly says you can turn on/off smart plugs.

I installed a couple of GE Smart Plugs and they are controllable using Alexa.
They appeared in the Alexa App. as Plugs.
I didn't actively do anything do get them "into" Alexa but think a discovery runs and imports compatible devices.
It was only several weeks after installation that I noticed they were there so not sure how often discovery runs or whether it can be initiated. Good luck.

If inverter was already integrated into Alexa before you got the smart plugs, I wonder if detaching then reattaching might force update / discover more features?

Lovely, the skill has just picked them up.
Now just Google Home integration to go

I purchased a couple but the GE setup app failed at the last hurdle. I suspect it's something to do with having both 2.4 and 5 Ghz WiFi bands enabled. I will give it another go once I figure things out with the new router 🤞

Tenkaykev I had some issues with 1 of 5 plugs. I have dual band WiFi with the same SSID.
Given that the first few worked without issue, it might just be a dodgy plug.
