Battery not charging upto 100%

Hello,


I charge my battery overnight in 30mins slots of the lowest tariff available. I have noticed that despite there being sufficient time to charge the battery never reaches 100%

It does reach 100% when charging from solar but not sure why it doesn’t fill up when charging overnight.

Any ideas anyone?

deepanshus Could it be temperature-related ? Do you charge at full power, or does your automation reduce the charging rate to be kind to the battery ?
Charging rate does tend to slow down as the system approaches 100%. There could also be some cell balancing going on - I don't know in detail how that works, but does tend to be quite slow.
When you charge from solar, you're presumably offering it power over many hours.

Or there seem to be different measures of SoC - in the app, when you go into the further information for the battery, it tends to show a lower value than the top-level bit of the app - possibly the true/raw capacity, including buffers /safety margins etc. Eg right now, app says my battery is 68%, but more information gives it as 67%. Perhaps your automation is accessing the raw SoC.

@deepanshus In addition to the comments DD makes:

  • have a look at your battery charge rate, is it set to maximum? Maybe do a reset to defaults in the portal on the inverter to be double sure
  • have a look at what the power input is to the battery during the charging period
  • some batteries, the 9.5 I think for one, slow down the charge rate as they approach 100% so the last bit trickles in
  • I find that despite my inverter being rated at 2.6kW charge rate the battery usually only charges at 2.4kW but discharges as 2.6. Sometimes a touch higher but there's definitely asymmetry on the charge & discharge rates

The SOC that i get is from the raw value but i am not sure how that be an issue. I do charge at full power, infact i have not changed the charge rate (3600 wh) and it is default.

geoffreycoan the power input also goes down, in fact i can see the power input and SOC in reverse correlation.

I just find it strange that the charge is reduced so much that it doesn't fill up 100%. Seems a bit counterintuitive

deepanshus my thinking was that the raw value doesn't go to 100%, but then you mentioned that on solar you do see 100%. So maybe it's not that.
With the 3rd-party app, it shows my system with a design capacity of 186Ah, and full of 198Ah. Anything above 186Ah is reported as 100%. I've not paid close attention to whether it actually goes above 186 on an AC charge, but I know it does on solar. (I currently only charge to 80% overnight to leave some room for solar.)

DD Do you have an AIO? From a conversation on the GivEnergy Home Assistant battery card I gather that the AIO mis-reports its capacity as being the total capacity that's physically inside the box, not the usable capacity (13.5kW or whatever it is).
Bit like the 5.2 batteries that only have 80% DoD. I was surprised the AIO behaves like this as my 9.5 battery reports its capacity as 9.5 even though physically there is more inside that is just not accessible.

That maybe your problem. I am on 3015 / 307 and that is not perfect. It has some strange qwirks so having migrated from 3013 / 393 I cannot compare to your set up. I just wish GE could issue a universal firmware for inverters and batteries and get it right rather than different versions especially for the inverters.
